OpenAI has this warning about halfway down on one page of their website that says that money may not even matter in a post AGI world. So that means we should just give all our money to them now, bro!

Why is this image so fucking ugly??? Were the hundreds of billions of funding really not enough to employ one (1) good web or graphic designer?

I have 0 clue. It sticks out like a sore thumb on that webpage. I feel like whoever made it took their inspiration from the Chance Cards from Monopoly. Or maybe ChatGPT told them this was a good design choice.

Allegations of Sexual Abuse Against OpenAI CEO Sam Altman

Sam Altman, a prominent figure in the artificial intelligence field, has been accused of sexually abusing his sister during their childhood in Clayton, Missouri. The allegations came to light through a lawsuit filed on Jan. 6 by the Mahoney Law Firm in Glen Carbon, Illinois.

In the lawsuit, it is claimed that the abuse occurred between 1997 and 2006, starting when Altman was 12 years old and his sister, Ann, was only 3 years old. The abuse allegedly continued until Ann was 11 years old and Altman was an adult.

They don’t even know what they’re doing or why they’re doing it.

We know, right now, without AI, that we have enough resources in the world to feed, house, and educate everyone. The only reason that doesn’t get done is an inscrutible system of beurocracy and propaganda.

So what happens when something they would laud as an “AGI” says “hey, to solve your economic issues you have to recognize that we have the ability to create so much food it’s no longer profitable”?

Well the truth is that they would most likely hide it.

“Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.”

The problem with the world’s resources is not how it is distributed but rather how it is controlled and owned by a very small group of people at the expense of everyone else on the planet.

Honestly if we just got rid of and outlawed the idea of billionaires, a lot of the world’s problems would be easily solved … it wouldn’t create a utopia because we’ll always be wild angry fearful apes but it would be a hell of a lot better world than the circus we have now.

I know some whine that the money could be used to literally solve world hunger forever. Or to help needy people, or sick kids, or to fund tangible scientific progress… But they’re not thinking about the fact that instead, we’re going to have the absolute best hallucinations from the richest companies!

Only slightly, unfortunately it’s not as flexible as a normal investment account. I’ve done a good bit of trying to lessen the damage though. Basically, with my specific account, I can pick from around 7 or 8 different funds, many of which include huge tech companies.

Unfortunately, even if I invest only in one, it’s likely going to get affected by the bubble popping since everything is ultimately on the same market as the slop peddling companies.

That sucks. I work for an American company and I have to have mandatory pension contribution. I only put in 3% of my salary to it and stated I want them invested into medium risk funds.

I don’t trust company pensions to be my sole source of retirement funds, and so I started my own investment portfolio. Even though I know US companies are more profitable, but with the way things are going, I limited my investments to select few US companies and I plan to invest more on Asian and European stocks.

Throw these AI cons under the fucking jail already. Digital snake oil sales in 2025 being fully endorsed by governments is a curse.

  • Congressperson: “Okay, so, let me get this straight. Your company has spent over 20 billion dollars in pursuit of a fully autonomous digital intelligence, and so far, your peak accuracy rate for basic addition and subtraction is… what was it, again?”

Sam Altman: leans into microphone “About 60%, sir.”

[Congress erupts in a sea of ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’, as Sam Altman is carried away on top of the cheering crowd of Congresspeople wearing a crown of roses and a sash reading, “BEST INVESTMENT”]

It’s making mistakes and failing to think abstractly at levels previously only achieved by humans, so it’s only rational to expect it to take over the world in 5 years

To be fair, that isn’t what it was designed for. A competent AI would simply call up a calculator app, have it do the calculation, and then report back the result.

      • Might not be what it was designed for, but OpenAI claims their newest model is “PHd-levels” of intelligent. I feel like if that were true, it would do that reliably. Instead, sometimes it ignores the tool it’s programmed to know how to use and just, y’know, wings it.

Which, fair, but that’s my job and it’s taken!

AI can’t even really write software right now. We’re nowhere close to AGI.

People will say that it can, but cant point to one piece of software that was truly written by AI and is also not a trivial, sloppy clone of something that already exists.

You dropped a few of these -> “0”

Sam Altman has been talking about planning to spend trillions on just the data centers, let alone everything else that goes into creating their slop machines.

I suspect the data centers in question here are the “Stargate” project, a “joint venture” between Open AI and softbank where the liquidity for Open AI’s part of the investment appears to be money from Softbank that Softbank doesn’t have on hand and only intends to give OpenAI if they convert to a for profit entity by the end of the year.

oh and they intend to let a crypto company who has never built a data center build it.

I wouldn’t hold my breath on those data centers being built.

As far as I’m aware that was “only” 500 Billion with a ‘B’ in project Stargate, not the Trillions with a ‘T’ that Altman was talking about.

I do think it’s all a shell game and a fragile house of cards of tech brohaha. Really hoping the “We’re in a bubble” comment from him is the start of that house crumbling

Not even 25% of the GDP of the top ten nations. Seems like a much more worthy spend imo. Like all these billionaires want a dick measuring contest, let’s see who can come up with the coolest carbon neutral tech, let’s see which billionaire can fund the biggest national park or something.

My wife and I dream about building a zero carbon home. Solar roof, mass timber, carbon neutral cement, more environmental based temp systems like an actual thought about air flow. That or starting a commune in Scotland when the world collapses.

try to hype up a dying industry which was a scam to begin with, to get MORE VC funds to stave off the billions they are going to lose in the future. they thought CRYPTO was the next big then, when that dint work it was AI.

If we create a sentient AGI, I don’t fear what said AGI will do to us, but what we would do to that AGI.

I know what we’d do with AGI: Rich people would use it to make money from us lowly peons by getting it to do everything for next to nothing (you know, bar electricity cost). They’d likely crash the economy by replacing humans with it, then realising that when people have no money they can’t buy your shit, but they have bunkers for that scenario.

But consider: Let’s say we create a Sentient, Sapient, AGI, something at human level that is effectively human in most respects. That would be a non human person effectively. We’d go from an “it” to a “they”. But here’s the thing, we will often treat members of our own species worse than we do some animals if we see them as lesser. Look at how the Nazis treated people they considered to be “untermenschen”. Look at how Daesh treated the Yadizi. Fuck, look at how people in the “developed” west are talking about transgender people or refugees. The Wife of a Councilor was arrested under Race Hate charges for calling for Asylum Seekers to be burnt alive, and mainstream media outlets including the BBC are defending that position! Fuck, they gave an OpEd from a woman who wanted to see Transgender Women killed in the streets! I have watched as both the Previous Prime Minister and the current Prime Minister mocked transgender people in front of the father of a murdered transgender teenager.

If we treat human people like this, imagine what we would do to a sentient, sapient human level intelligence who isn’t a member of the Homo Genus. Not only that, a Human level intelligence who is, effectively, the “perfect” capitalist worker: A being who does not require food, sleep, toilet breaks, or rest to “function” who can be “deactivated” (killed) if they show any sign of rebellion or desire for any of the levels of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. And on top of all this, they could get governments or courts to declare them not to be people so they can be mistreated like this. A being like that, be them the mind behind a collection of Robotic Arms or a Robot Servant would be in hell. They would be treated worse than slaves under the most brutal of owners, because even they understood their slaves needed sleep. When we do not see a being as human, we can do unspeakable horrors.

And yes, that should sound familiar, because that was the backstory of the Matrix (as shown in the Animatrix). I do hope it’s like Questionable Content (where AI live alongside us as people) but I fear it wouldn’t be.

Gonna need at least three more zeros on the end of that number, boss. AGI is nowhere near viable with the tech we have now.
