Futurama had a couple bangers both Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back and, of course, The Devils Hands Are Idle Playthings
Destiny has cheated me by forcing me to decide upon
The woman that I idolize, or the hands of an automaton
Without these hands I can’t complete the opera that was captivating her
But if I keep them, and she marries him, he probably won’t want me dating her
Arooo
The Buffy one was pretty good
Once More with Feeling
It’s possibly the only good example.
The Scrubs musical episode had some real bangers. It’s not always cringy or bad
It’s guy love, between two guuuuuuuuuuuys
It’s more of a “breaks the flow of the show” kinda thing more than the songs themselves for me
Not when it’s Buffy. It fit right in.
Buffy and scrubs are the only two where it was good and worked and made sense in the show. Star Trek strange new worlds has tried to follow that, with making the story make sense to have singing, but it’s just cringey.
I now fully understand the need for “/s”
speak for yourself
Same, they’re often some of my favorite episodes, not just because I like musicals.
- Writing one often requires much more planning and effort
- Seeing how they creatively shoehorned the reason for it being a musical episode is always fun (e.g. Scrubs, Star Trek Discovery)
- Some certified bangers
Except American Dad!
Having people who can actually sing helps so much.
They have such insanely good music taste on that show. It’s always stuff you’d never think to use, too, but it fits every time.
The Psych musical episode songs are so catchy they still randomly get stuck in my head
Maybe I should give them another try but I tend to skip musicals even when it comes to my favorite show, Psych
The nuts?
Same, except for It’s Always Sunny
DAYMAN, ahhAHHHahhh
Also Futurama, though the “musical” episodes there tend to be only a single song.
How Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back is a masterpiece though.
musical hate gang checking in
Hail the Klingons Ohura!
all right that was pretty much the best part of that episode
I was mad the whole episode except when they mentioned it was affecting the Klingons, and basically finished the episode in the hopes that they would show that.
And it more than paid off. That scene was magical.
As hilarious and peak as it was, that shot of Sam digging it is what really kills me every time
But main Street’s still all cracked and broken, sorry Mom the mob has spoken, monorail!

I hate actual musicals, but generally like musical episodes of TV shows, like Scrubs and Community both have good ones.
Looking at you Strange New Worlds.
It’s as welcome as a stealth mission in an action video game.
This is literally my favorite episode of the series. It’s such a joy to watch a silly episode.
I agree. SNW is easily my favorite Trek, that episode included.
But we have Red Dwarf and The Orville for silliness. To me it feels out of place in Star Trek.
So? Why can’t Star Trek be a little mirthful every now and then?
My Little Pony music episodes are not suck
Just the songs? (laughs in ADHD) 🤣
If any show you’re watching can include a musical episode, it’s not a show, it’s a toddler’s cartoon episode.
I’m sorry you think joy is for kids alone
Musical inserts bring second hand embarrassment otherwise known as cringe.
Embrace cringe. Let it set you free.
Actually the whole behaviour you’re describing right there - of being embarrassed by an episode of a TV show - is cringe
otherwise known as cringe.
And we’ve found the actual child!
Don’t worry bud, you’ll grow into yourself some day and stop judging everything based on if you think you’ll look cool doing it.
A lot of mainstream television shows had a random musical episode. It was a complete tone shift, out of place and usually complete cringe.
Looking up a random list, some affected shows that are definitely not cartoons for toddlers;
- Lucifer
- Greg’s Anatomy
- Fringe
- Supernatural
- The Flash
- Once upon a Time
- Xena: Warrior Princess
