They’re really targeting California as a whole now. The state that supported the union so much over history. Republicans must really feel jealous that it is the richest state.

Apart from the obvious “arresting a senator for asking questions” thing, is whatever’s happening on this picture standard procedure for arresting an unarmed, unthreatening person in the US? It looks like they’re arresting a terrorist or a dangerous suspect

Yeah, cops are racist as fuck. But they will gladly beat up anyone. Threaten too. I remember when I was a lot younger talking to a cop (i did’t know better at the time.) and suddenly he starts resting his hand on his holster and looking at me weird.

FYI, in many states that action is very explicitly defined as Assault.

Prosecutors would definitely take that to trial, for sure. But it also depends on your jury. Being acquitted is definitely more likely as the days go by now. A lot of people no longer give law enforcement any sort of benefit of the doubt, often the exact opposite now.

You just need 1 member of that jury to decide that way and refuse to change their position to hang the jury, and then the prosecutors have to decide whether to bother with a retrial and do it all over again. Any time the first jury is unable to decide, that weighs heavily over any subsequent trial, whether it’s supposed to or not.

So an unelected figurehead of the federal government has come to my state, had a senator I voted for arrested over asking a question which is his civic duty to ask, and has now made threats at removal of my elected govenor as well as an elected mayor of one of the cities here.

At which point would these actions be considered tyrannical enough to provide a decent argument for a use of the 2nd amendment in court?

The 2nd amendment just says the government can’t take away your guns. It doesn’t say anything about it being okay for you to use them against the government.

I mean, hell, police kill people all the time, but the courts treat having a gun on your person as a reason the cops had to shoot you. So they can’t take away the gun, but they can take away your life for having it.

Basically you can use it as a security blanket to rock yourself to sleep at night, but get anywhere near the gestapo with it and you die a “terrorist.”

Never, if we accept the intent of the 2nd amendment is to stop a tyrannical us government it does so be making sure you have the means for a rebellion (or the states actually). In that case you would not be judged for your actions like a criminal.

It of course does not apply to individuals taking action on their own (and they alone would not be able to bring down a regime). The best you could hope is a pardon/amnesty by a new pro democracy president/authority, if you are still alive.

I’ve tried like 10 times and I don’t know why.

There’s some missing punctuation (and typos), in a social media post, written on a mobile phone, the horror! I 've switched to a PC with a proper, physical keyboard.

I am confused by your mention of pauses, are you reading it aloud and trying to split it when you need to breath? You should be identifying verbs, their subjects and their objects.

But I doubt either you, or the other downvoters do not actually understand my post. It’s far more likely you do, but it offends you.

It’s ironic that pro-democracy Americans can’t handle criticism of America’s mythology. Even more so, if you understand that using your, 2nd amendment protected, guns to stop tyranny is simply right wing propaganda to conceal their power fantasy of killing people they don’t like, with their 2nd amendment provided guns.

The same people that screamed about 2A “shall not be infringed” and insisting their full auto arsenal was to stand up to a tyrannical govt. Now won’t say a word when every other amendment has been completely removed and the govt is tyrannical in every way.

Yeah, our countrymen are dipshits, but let’s not undersell how complicit the Dems are by constantly choosing to run candidates that their voting base feels they have to vote for begrudgingly.

And let’s not pretend like the decision isn’t between unregulated capitalism, and fascism. Yes one is the better choice, but I mean Jesus Christ it’s like trying to decide if you want to die by injection in 10 years or being boiled alive today, you die either way.

Hard to win elections when your voting base can’t be excited about you. Hence why gop is winning, it’s easier for a fascist to appeal to a dipshit than it is for a capitalist to appeal to a voter with the ability to think for themselves.

So, my question when I run into that argument is: who do you think people would rally behind?

There’s always this assumption that the party has someone that they know would be super popular but they then make a conscious choice to run the most conservative person to the left of the Republican.

There are primaries. They’re made up of people who can get enough support. The local parties are closer to voters, and it’s much easier for people to join.
Somehow the people who consistently get elected are the sort of people they keep fielding as candidates.

So I’d love it if we had a great inspiring candidate. But literally who are they?

A sizable part of the population thinks holding down a liberal senator and tazing him is Based and are only upset that they can’t take part. A sizable part thinks if the police tackle you and slap cuffs on, you must have done something to deserve it.

This isn’t an issue of people being too stupid to understand what’s happening. This is decades of fascist propaganda from the right and decades of liberal cop-worship politics on the left all coming due.

Whatever the Dems do, they need to do it in the most non-confrontational way possible, maybe a semi-strongly worded letter? Nothing too harsh, they just need to let everyone know they are not super chill with the current vibe. Hopefully they take it easy though, they definitely don’t want the Republicans to think they are impolite or rude
