And it should be granted. It’s disgusting that people that have done nothing wrong are being targeted by the bigot in chief.

I’m a couple months away from moving to Sweden for school and hopefully work after that. I’m fortunate enough to have survived the tech mass firings and built myself a good savings. I don’t have to apply for asylum currently but after school if I can’t find a job quickly I’ll be down to the wire on finances. If for that reason or any other they try and send me back to the US I’ll be one of the trans people testing asylum as well. The US wants us dead, even in Seattle it’s getting worse, I can’t come back here

What’s the percentage on transgender people? 1% or lower? Way lower, even. I say we open the gates and accept as many as want to come in. Couldn’t be more than a couple million people.

It depends on the source and how free people feel to answer surveys and censuses honestly, but it tends to be estimated that between 0.5% and 1% of the population are transgender or nonbinary. So your estimate of the total trans population in the USA is probably not too far off.

I’d love for Canada to make a point of offering asylum to transgender people who are persecuted in other countries. But we have to tame our own right wing to ensure trans people are safe and can live a good life here. Though the Liberals narrowly won the general election, the results still showed a worrying lurch to the right.
