It’s really crazy how internet regressed in this regard. “Don’t feed the troll” is been the moto of the web but not it’s almost inverse. People try to justify this as justice seeking but its clearly doesn’t work.
It’s because of engagement algorithms, partially. Unlike ‘dumb’ forums/boards, the bulk of the modern internet heavily rewards trolling (and engaging with trolls) in every form.

God I love the profit driven nature of the modern Internet that relies on engagement-by-any-means-necessary. I love it sssooooo mmuuuucchhh
