Kkk shouldn’t be banned either, as long as they don’t directly call for violence against anyone. Freedom of speech is there to protect speech that is unpopular. 20 years ago conservatives might have tried to ban transgender propaganda. LGBT propaganda is still banned in Russia, and many other places besides. You can’t start picking and choosing acceptable speech- either you believe in free speech or you don’t.
You position is undeniably stupid in the face of our modern world. Propaganda works and we will never be free of hate while “free speech absolutists” pretend they are anything more than hatemongers and charlatans.

I agree that we will never be free of hate…period. Banning hate speech doesn’t help. Germany banned denial of the holocaust, Nazi salutes, burning the Quran, and look at them now; the anti-immigration alt-right is the strongest there since the 1940s. However, if you allow freedom of speech you can at least prevent abuses of power by the government.

Oh I’m familiar with the paradox of tolerance, but it is not a consensus view that banning intolerant viewpoints is a good idea. Lynching and explicit calls for violence are plainly illegal and i dont defend them. However the KKK (to the extent that it even exists anymore) does not do those things, at least not officially. The ACLU famously defended the KKKs right to speak in public.
Assuming you’re talking about America, the erosion of the constitution is a serious concern but we are far from being fascist (case in point, we are having this conversation without fear of retribution).
Canada “gets along fine” in the sense that they have fewer immigrants than the US or Europe so demographic tensions are not as acute. But there is sure as hell racism and xenophobia there as well. Meanwhile in Europe, with much heavier restrictions on speech, there is I would argue more racism and xenophobia than the US.I don’t know how you can with a straight face say the states aren’t fascist the days after scanning of social media scanning

I admit, I view the over the top Nazi / “politically incorrect” actions as essentially showing off that regular ‘rules’ and norms don’t apply to a certain ‘class’ of people, namely the rich. Once you’re rich enough, you can openly accept gold-clad jets as bribes, and no one in the USA, or other countries, will stop you.
Commoners can’t even make a slightly inappropriate comment on sites like Reddit without getting banned. Left leaning government officials are losing careers over the mere accusation that they may’ve done something inappropriate towards a minority / women. Places like Canada and the UK, have online hate speech laws that make certain discussions / opinions, expressed online, potential criminal acts punishable by jail time.
Then you have people like Ye, overtly praising hitler. You have Elon Musk, doing Nazi salutes and supporting fascist right-wing movements. And they do these things with general immunity from legal / govt repercussions. Because they’re so rich, they don’t have to worry about things like going to jail for being fans of hitler / fascist movements – that’s a poor person problem.
You can’t defend Palestine without repercussions, but being an actual, literal Nazi is ok, apparently.

…and to those public figures who get accused of being a Nazi (like this) let me tell you something: The way to swing yourself out of it is to not just say, “I’m not a Nazi” or “You’re stupid if you think I’m a Nazi.” You say, “I fucking HATE Nazis!” (loudly and publicly). Then you point to other Nazis like Rogan and Ye and spell out, specifically why their beliefs are wrong. Then maybe make a huge, public donation to a pro-LGBTQ+ organization and say something like, “attacking minorities is wrong!”, “Trans people are harmless! Leave them alone”, and then later you can clarify your position with something like, “Genocide is wrong—and that’s why I’m mad at Israel; not Jews, specifically.”
The fact that this obvious public relations formula, which someone pretty crappy at heart could put on as a front, sounds like advice from an all-star agent right now…
