Pete Hoekstra thumbs through an imaginary document, and pauses for effect: “This is a serious proposal — pile one.” Then he raises a second document. “I can’t believe this,” he guffaws. “This is a joke.” Straight to the discard pile.

That, says President Donald Trump’s ambassador to Canada, is how it will go — one way or another — when newly elected Prime Minister Mark Carney submits a proposal on a revamped economic and security agreement with the United States

    It’s outrageous that

    • You’re not respecting your trade neighbor’s sovereignty.
    • You’re using drugs as a pretext for tariffs, at least be honest.
    • You’re asking us to enforce who gets in your country from our border, that’s your job.
    • You’re not respecting your women’s bodily autonomy.
    • You’re making light of your own Constitution, the Judiciary branch, etc

Things that are not outrageous according to the current US government

    • Deporting citizens
    • arresting judges
    • hiring totally unqualified heads of departments
    • Pardoning homegrown terrorists
    • hiring a billionaire to shutter departments to kill investigations under the guise of cutting waste
    • having a military parade for a senile president

I too like to bully the neighbor and then yell at them for not buying anything from my yard sale.

But he’s also feeling hurt by Canadians’ ban of certain American products from their store shelves in the wake of Trump’s trade war and calls for annexation.

“That is an insult to us,” he said. “We have not done anything like that.”

    🤣 - wait, I think he’s serious.

I thought the invisible hand was always right? This isn’t the government banning things, it’s its people and companies doing so. He also sounds like a lickspittle “I’ve been giving my marching orders”. Which part, where trump says “never say never”?.

Not that they care, but they kind of gave up on the “invisible hand” when they went full protectionist.

Not really sure how any US diplomat can be taken seriously in their public statements when sycophancy for a completely dishonest and untrustworthy leader is a requirement for keeping their job.
