Ukrainians get denied access to whiteness in a white supremacist society as long as they maintain their own cultural traditions. whiteness is connected to colorism, but white supremacy is not colorism alone. it’s about

    1. colorism
    2. obliteration of culture in order to homogonize into “whiteness”
    3. looking down on the low arts such as needle point, crochet, comedy, street art, dance, etc
    4. veneration of the “official” written history
    5. consumption of food rather than the celebration of preparation of food
    6. willingness to perform violence against someone with less power or status than yourself in order to avoid standing up to someone with more power or status
    7. an isolationist attitude towards community

even to “white” people white supremacy lies about who “white people” are

This one especially. Like half the fun of family/friend events and holidays, for me at least, is sitting around talking shit and prepping food (bread being a big one).

Cooking is seriously looked down on for some reason

it’s looked down on because white supremacy attaches “supremacy” to not being part of the servant class that makes the food. and like. tbh we all have those days we just don’t feel up to it and go grab something to eat, but white supremacy seeks to incentivize a society in which white people never make their own food, even if they’re lower class. there’s a really fascinating problem in america where white poverty and black poverty look different because white people are more likely to be over the poverty line but still impoverished. when you are in that bracket it is legitimately cheaper and more time efficient to get prepared meals rather than ingredients. however, if you qualify for snap benefits (food stamps) a prepared meal is an occasional treat because the food stamps cover ingredients rather than complete meals.

what’s more is this deepens the distance between poor white people and poor black people who should be coalitioning together against their oppressors because it lets the oppressors trick the poor white people into thinking there is some intrinsic difference or even superiority between white people and black people

Huh… I never realized that, but you’re right. People who look down in other cultures also tend to be the ones who look down on folk art even within their own culture.

I’ve noticed before that the people saying, “If there’s an African American Culture club at this school, why can’t we have a White Culture club?” are never actually the ones interested in learning about the culture of white peoples for its own sake.
