My shitty no-stakes conspiracy theory is that said modders are comprised of anonymous Palworld devs who are as salty about the removal as we are, and who know the code better than anyone.
This is why more games should openly embrace modding.
A “we’re legally not allowed to do this gameplay mechanic” writeup and let the community unofficially provide it.
There are a couple games where it’s an open secret that the “community” modders were the devs
I know at least one of the factorio devs released a few mods of things that didn’t really fit with being in the base game but are interesting mods, like MIRVs. But that isn’t even a secret, it’s published under the same name.
Plenty of indie games on steam that have workshop support usually have a handful of mods from a dev. Usually qol stuff or just fun things to change.
That’s funny! Any particular mods I should look for?
Nothing that I can think of off the top of my head but every once in a while you’ll hear about restored content or various IP shenanigans getting pushed by definitely-not-the-devs on modding forums.
I wish the keeper of many fond childhood memories wasn’t a company I fervently wish would die in a fire.
The gulf between Nintendo’s legal/corporate office and the game designers/developers is staggering to me
It’s sad but they’ve been like this since the get-go. They sued Galoob for the Game Genie (and lost), and they sued Blockbuster for copying manuals so that people could have the manual to review when they rented games (and won). Nintendo has always been excruciatingly aggressive about protecting and policing their copyrights and IP, even when they’re dead wrong.
This is not an attempt to justify what they’re doing, just to point out that it’s unfortunately nothing new.
Never give Nintendo your money, they are devils with subpar games.
Never give Nintendo your money
yes.
they are devils
yes.
with subpar games
no. There’s good reasons why nintendo games are the most pirated games.
Subpar for the price they are asking then?
I can agree with that.
trying to justify thier games as AAA pricing. subtier console with subtier gaming. especially around pokemon games. gen 1-6 were good, but everything after that was just a disaster.
It’s finally gotten way out-of-hand, even for me. Gen XI will be the first main series Pokémon games in 30 years I won’t be pre-ordering, let alone even buying. First-party Switch games were already way too expensive, rarely ever going on sale, and now we may be moving to an $80 standard. And it seems the main selling point of the Switch 2 in the latest Direct was a bunch of ports. At that price point, there’s no reason not to just get a Steam Deck and sail the high seas for first-party titles. At least Valve won’t brick my device if I hurt their feelings.
Last gen was a bunch of ports too. New games didn’t start popping off until middle of the consoles lifespan.
i dint buy it at the time because it was switch 400+60+ DLC, and nintendo internet+ pokemon perpetual cold storage, and then i heard every game got worst and worst. and it was difficult enough to put homebrew on the 3ds when that was available, because nintendo was constantly updating to break the cracks.
and GEN 6 was already kinda dumbed down , but had enough content to keep going.
I’m curious how close this guess is, based solely on the generations you mention as good; are you 28?
i stopped playing the console like 5 years ago. just had no interest as i found other games to play. also play the free versions of pokemon cards online.
Yeah, post gen-6 is where i stopped. It felt like the games were really dumbed down, and they leaned way too hard into 3d graphics.
like i was literally laughing at post-swsh graphics, the models were randomly stretching, or there is an incomplete map, or the clouds are all terrible pixels. MASUDA clearly hates pokemon now. i think the biggest reasons was omitting most pokemon from the future games. people still bought the game, and they were complaining about it on reddit.
Xbox360/PS3/Wii is peak.
As someone who was 20 when Pocket Monsters came out in Japan and only played Red/Blue, which generation is 6?
The X and Y games set in the Kalos ( France ) region. Also the same generation they released Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire ( remakes of Ruby and Sapphire ( based on some part of Japan ) ).
I had to look it up too.
X & Y, Kalos region
Love it. Just hope big daddy N doesn’t go after them too.
Make it open source
That won’t stop a C&D.
Then someone else forks it
Fork it to another git server. Because forking it on the same platform will also be caught by a C&D
You don’t even have to use a git server if you want. Just dump the source code everywhere.
The smaller the source code is the easier that is, I imagine a mod like this would take very little data. Would be extra funny if its so small it could be shared as a QR code. But probably not quite that small.
Is Nintendo the new “N-word”?
Racists soon trying to fit the N-word into Nintendo in 3…
Reporting for using the N slur
(jk)
Nintendo has been called “Big N” for a very long time, so I wouldn’t attribute that to this.
As for a restoration of throw-to-release pals, there is a mod currently available along those lines, but it doesn’t work exactly as Palworld used to before last year’s patch (it doesn’t include the ball-throwing animation, rather summons the Pal where you’re currently looking).
Wouldn’t surprise me if they’re going full “avoid Nintendo issues” mode and make one mod for spawning, another for throwing animation and potentially potentially a third sacrificial one to make them work together. Iif you don’t make the second compatible with “all” items and don’t use the ball as an example screenshot.
