Hunting is the most ethical way to harvest meat if you do it right.

If you pull that trigger, you best kill the animal in one shot. Here’s where to aim.

Overpopulation is a massive threat to deer populations due to a lack of natural predators. This leads to reduced health of individual deer, starvation, and outbreaks of disease. Chronic Wasting Disease has become an epidemic, and it’s a truly awful way to go. It’s to the point state’s wildlife management departments are begging for more hunters to control the population.

Nature isn’t “nice”, it’s ruthless and demands balance. Each deer you take helps maintain that balance.

Is a death in an minute really that depressing compared to death by starvation, CWD, or being torn apart slowly by predators?

I’m not pro or anti deer hunting, I don’t like killing things so I don’t hunt personally but I join my family sometimes when they go to camp for deer season just for spending time hiking and in nature. The info in this guide is something every deer hunter should already know, in NYS you have to go through a course to get your hunting license and it covers stuff like this. Dunno about other states though. I think deer hunting is a lot more ethical than factory farming. Sorry just wanted to expand on my other comment

“In a minute” they take quite a bit longer to die than that, you have to track them by their blood trail after you shoot them and they run off. Still preferable to wasting disease but don’t pretend like they don’t suffer. This guide is a good display of how to minimize that suffering, if you don’t hit them in the vitals it takes a damn lot longer.
