Trump is spouting nonsense again, claiming that prices are “falling” and inflation is “defeated.” Anyone who has ever stepped into a store knows this is a lie. Milk, bread, meat—nothing is getting cheaper.
But why does he lie so shamelessly about something so easily verifiable? It’s simple: he’s not talking to people who actually buy groceries.
His fans aren’t mothers counting pennies at the checkout, students living on instant noodles, or retirees skimping on medication. His core supporters are men 50+ who last saw the price of milk a decade ago.
When their wives say, “Everything’s getting more expensive!” they brush it off: “You just don’t know how to shop!” or “If Trump says so, it must be true!”
This isn’t a mistake—it’s a strategy. Trump knows his followers live in a world where facts don’t matter. If he says groceries are getting cheaper, they’ll believe him—even if their wallets scream otherwise.
So when he brags about “defeating inflation,” remember: he’s not talking to you. He’s talking to those who’ve long lost touch with reality.

A huge part of Trump’s campaign was the economy. People counting pennies voted for him. But they will hear the lie enough times and believe it because they have no memory. Last year’s prices are forgotten.
2 years into this madness fox news will still be saying “This is Bidens failed economy! It’s his fault everything is still expensive! But also Trump lowered prices! Promises kept! Believe both things at once, it’s ok we allow it!”
It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grammes a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grammes a week.
Plenty of his fans are counting pennies and skipping necessities.
Identities with more rigorous behavior requirements often do better. It seems counter-intuitive but the greater the buy-in required, the more appealing the identity often is.
In some weird and deeply human way, demanding that supporters ignore reality as they slowly starve and die of preventable diseases may make his base more likely to stick with him.
