I snagged a 2025 Ioniq 5 to replace my 2021 Chevy Bolt yesterday and already put 150 miles on it. I’m kind of blown away and wanted to share some things that stood out.
- The car is wide. Much wider than the Bolt. Gonna take some getting used to.
- Not sure how I lived without a power lift gate until now. It was great when loading laundry and groceries into the trunk.
- The driver seat can lay completely flat - flatter than the zero gravity mode that you may have seen. Perfect for napping while waiting at the laundromat, and I’m looking forward to trying it while car camping.
- You can pull the car forward and backwards with the keyfob while standing outside of it. Already used it twice - once to pull out of a tight parking spot, once to center myself after street parking a bit crooked.
- The surround view is incredible. It made parallel parking an absolute breeze.
- Autopilot is scary but works. I was only brave enough to use it on the highway with no other cars around.
- Auto-parking doesn’t seem to work very well, but I’ll have to play around with it.
Overall I’m super happy with the car and keep looking for excuses to go somewhere. Happy to answer any questions.
What are your thoughts on the flip out door handles. Those things scare me.
I’ve had my Ioniq 5 for a year and a half, the door handles seem pretty solid to me. What’s your worry with them?
The handles getting gunked up and jammed so that they don’t flip out anymore
I don’t like them, they feel flimsy. I’m worried about how I will get into the car after an ice storm.
I’m about 600 miles into my IONIQ 5 XRT. I didn’t want the XRT but by the time I got to the dealer after their last pre-Krasnov-Tariffs delivery, the IONIQ 5 Limited had already sold and what I now have was my only option.
I’m pretty happy with everything but the color, which is black. Also my inability to figure out how to tell the car “PLEASE VENT OUTSIDE AIR IN WITHOUT CONDITIONING IT IN ANY WAY.” Anyone got insight there? I’ve got at least another month of decent weather that doesn’t need to tax the batteries.
Very excited that my solar installer, who is about to put batteries in at the house to back up and enable grid-free usage of last year’s solar panels, says they can install a generator transfer switch that I’ll be able to use with the IONIQ’s bi-directional charging! Not a huge win for now, but the car’s battery is as big as the $35k worth of batteries I’m about to add to the house.
Ultimately I’ll sell the IONIQ once I can take delivery of my Telo Truck, and given the tariff-raffery going on here in the US, I expect I’ll be able to sell the XRT used for as much as I bought it for.
Go into climate section and turn off HEAT and A/C. If either is off, flip it on and off again. They will stay off until you press AUTO or turn them on specifically.
Don’t know your car, and I assume there’s probably a reason you don’t, but what about just opening the windows?
Windows have a significant negative effect on aerodynamics at higher speeds. And of course it’s also very noisy.
yea i feel like they can snap off any minute.
Mine feel fine, I am a 2024 model though.
