I went the opposite way, started with Premium, then downgraded to Extra, and when the price increased, downgraded to Essential.

With how much I play, Extra doesn’t seem like worth it anymore. Essential is still good cause I have a previous backlog, and get enough games throughout the year that keeps it worth the price. Not to mention occasionally want to play a multi-player game and it requires PS+.

I play street fighter 6 daily. I only subscribe to ps+ for online play for it. If I didn’t have a game I wanted in deluxe, I would have stayed on essential. I only upgraded as the price was equivalent and I figured I’d get some other games in the meantime. I’ll go back to essential once the prepayment is finished.

I’ll never buy another console. Ridiculous to have such a high ongoing cost for online play of a game I paid a premium for. A lot of the games I supposedly own while continuing to subscribe have disappeared, which makes the value proposition even worse.

Yeah, makes sense, if there are a few games in higher tier that you want, then upgrading makes sense.

I grew up playing on a weak PC, so had half of the games won’t even run on it, and this apparently left some psychological scars 😀 . I like consoles, cause you buy one box, and for next 7 or so years, you can play everything that gets released (on the platform). No worrying if your system can run it or not, not feeling left out cause you can only run it on Medium with shadows at low, no fiddling with drivers and so on.

So, I’ll probably stick with consoles, unless Steam releases a nice Steam box, which works like console (like Steam Deck, but home-console type). Not sure if that will make me switch too, but that is when I would really have to think what I should do.
