I’ve still got a couple to clear off my backlog.
I’ve finished Bloodborne and Sekiro multiple times, have finished Demon’s Souls once, and we’re on our second playthrough of Elden Ring. I have not really played any of the Dark Souls, however.
DS1 was actually the first one I’ve ever played after watching PewDiePie play the game (holy shit, this was ages ago). I didn’t really get the game and I didn’t know what a soulslike is yet, so I dropped the game quite quickly after killing the Taurus Demon.
Fast forward to a couple years ago, I bought the DS collection for PS4 and started a playthrough of DS1 and DS3 which I’ve both played a couple hours of but then dropped again because I preferred the other FS games.
I would really like to play DS2 sometime soon, however. I want to know if the game is really as bad as people make it out to be or if it’s just hyperbole.
Rhymes with “forlorn…” Don’t own a PS, can’t justify the expense. Otherwise, it may actually be my favourite of theirs. The art style is almost perfect Gothic Horror in my opinion, and what I’ve seen of the faster combat tickles me greatly, as I love being aggressive since DS3.
I am planning on trying out the emulated version once I can clear up a larger chunk of time.
Edit: and, to add, you should play DS2 :P :)))
I was just gonna say that you could try emulating the game if your PC is good enough
I shall :D
Yeaah, I kept postponing in the hopes that something sane would happen and they’d release an official port, but it’s looking like “never”, so…
PC should handle it, 9th gen i7, 4080 Super, and as much RAM as my MoBo can hold. Beefy SSD, too.
Yea if the recent 10th anniversary’s celebration, or rather lack thereof, is any proof, we’re not getting any new Bloodborne content any time soon.
A simple patch for 60 FPS would, in all likelihood, be all players really want, but from what I’ve heard, the entire game was programmed around the 30 FPS in the game, making is quite difficult to just bump up the frames. An unofficial community-created patch does exist, however, and is playable on jailbroken PS4/5 and is available for the emulated version as well, so it can’t be that difficult for a Sony-backed FromSoft.
Maybe for the 20th anniversary we’ll get something in time for PS8 🤡

Have you played Lies of P or Khazan yet? If so, Sekiro should be right up your alley. The game sports quite a difficult learning curve since it’s so vastly different in combat flow and gameplay compared to classic soulslikes, but it’s one of the influences for LoP and Khazan, I imagine.
Absolutely my favourite soulslike and my favourite game of all time. Took me three separate attempts to finally get into the game, but it was oh so worth it.
Still haven’t played any of the King’s Field franchise, but I’d love to compare and contrast with the later Dark Souls games to see how the kernel of an idea can blossom with iteration and elaboration.
Dark Souls 2 was made by a different team than the other souls games, so it’s kind of like somebody else’s take on the formula, in a way.
It introduced a bunch of stuff that wasn’t (and in some cases still aren’t) in the others.
I played it when it first came out and loved it. Played the DLCs, loved them, and then again when the Scholar of the First Sin edition came out.
The latter is definitely what you should play if you liked the others.
It’s really not the same thing as the original release, oddly. It also includes the three absolutely phenomenal DLCs as well.
