      I’m fairly sure they are speaking of recognising territory belonging to a certain country. For example, US doesn’t recognise Palestine while plenty of the world does. Trump as a president can definitely shape US foreign policy like that.

      [edit] I just realised the next step is Google Maps displaying that Crimea belongs to Russia for everyone regardless of location because that’s how US rolls these days lol.

    He recognises that big body of water as The Gulf of America. That doesn’t make it so. Same applies here.
