Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.

Dunno who hasn’t heard that one yet but it felt relevant.
Ok, rather than edit my reply to AbsolutelyNotAVelociraptor, I’ll reply again here because your comment helped the penny drop, and I’ve read the conversation again now realising that the reference to the hand gesture is to the dickhead’s salute, so I get the first comment, not sure about the “roman hug”, and assuming the last person is being sarcastic, saying what someone on the right might say because that’s how they defend musk?
Sorry, my brain isn’t entirely in gear yet and I think there may be too many levels of sarcasm overlapping 😂
Ah, see I’d seen that, but (before I realised the musk salute connection) I thought a roman hug was a reference to its own thing (like maybe getting stabbed in the back?), rather than just a tongue in cheek reference to the roman salute.
I didn’t see anybody claiming that, and I don’t get why that would be a defense. A roman salute is a fascist symbol that - at least in Italy - is considered identical to the nazi one. They are basically synonyms, so much so that Italian articles reporting on this fact used the term “roman salute” to describe Musk’s gesture.
the right is trying to say that criticising the world’s richest dickhead for sieg heiling is ablist
Sounds like some DEI talk to me, maybe someone should go report them or something.
right? we should all be flooding that reporting email address

Lots of the far right saying he was giving a “roman salute”. All of it is the defenses for Musk applied to Luigi Mangione.

Thanks for the help 😂
