Given they’ll spend their whole careers watching screen readouts sat in comfy chairs, there’s only one logical choice - hear me me out now

I’ll be honest, I didn’t even see the person until I opened it in full-screen. The people making camo patterns know what they’re doing.

        … /s

“Essentially, the Army designed a universal uniform that universally failed in every environment,” said an Army specialist who served two tours in Iraq, wearing UCP in Baghdad and the deserts outside Basra.  “The only time I have ever seen it work well was in a gravel pit.”

It was the camouflage pattern PEO selected after the crayon eaters flexed their (good if specialized) MARPAT and Big Army was rightly embarrassed by having to field troops in DCU/choc-chip with M81 woodland field gear

The brigadier general ultimately responsible for the decision, James Moran, who retired from the Army after leaving Program Executive Office Soldier, has not responded to messages seeking comment.

Nah, it are the sofa print people who really know what they are doing, and doing it on a budget.

I have an ongoing bet with a buddy. I win when the Space Force establishes a base off-planet. He wins if the US forms a Time Force branch. Neither of us expect to win in our lifetime.

My money is on your buddy. The most likely scenario there is, is that Trump around New Year’s Eve forgets how time zones work and thinks that China is in the future which leads to him founding the Time Force. And all they can do is travel to the future, at a speed of 60 minutes per hour.

Or more likely, they build a base directly on a time zone line so they can jump between the zones going “4 o’clock, 5 o’clock, 4 o’clock, 5 o’clock…”

I think your buddy is most likely to get the money at least. You’ll be dead before yours is true, but if we need a Time Force, your buddy may still get his money. It might be created in 1000 years, but someone may let him know he won and get it to him.

WHEN we need a Time Force they’ll probably have travel locked down so it’s unlikely someone would make it back to deliver the news. Might have to add a rule about not disrupting the time continuum and just let descendents claim the reward.

Bottom image is from Generation Kill. That show was fucking amazing. Lauded as one of the most realistic depictions of Marines in the Iraq war and filled with digs at military leadership (like the one in the caption). Won a bunch of awards including Emmys.

Amazing show. I view it as a modern version of Band of Brothers in many ways.

      Po-leeece that moostache!

I’ve heard that series is the most real representation of the the Marine Corps and combat environments in general. It’s morbidly hilarious.

Unfortunately, Evan Wright, the author of the book (which was adapted to the show you’re talking about) also committed suicide earlier this year. He had quite the career.

Navy versions, too. “Can’t see me, I look like a digital ocean”.

If you actually fall into the ocean, this may be counterproductive to your interests.

Always thought that was weird when I used to work on a navy base, and I don’t know if it is typical of the other branches too, but they seemed to have a slightly altered version of their uniforms pushed on them every 6 months or so.

That is partly for opsec reasons.

Forcing potential “unauthorised personnel” to constantly be sourcing new uniforms is a legitimate method to add another layer of difficulty to gaining access. The people who really give a shit will notice if you’re wearing out of date uniforms.

The fact that USSSF has woodland camo just confirms they’re a front for the SGC because every other planet looks like British Columbia.
