If he’s not paying you, then you can just not. You can just say you’re giving up. Informed consent is an important factor in agreeing to help a family member.
My dad asked for “a little help” with his construction work, and it’s became a multi-day job, 10+ hours a day, in 31 C humid weather

I agree, I love spending time with them and helping where it’s needed. They just sometimes ask a bit much
