I am admittedly being lax with the definition, but they are certainly defending an authoritarian state and their atrocities committed in service of an ideological state project.

that’s just a generic authoritarian. tankie specifically shill perverted version of communism based on Lenin/Stalin/Mao, excusing their crimes and glorifying history of USSR as something that was good.

They do side with Palestinians on this issue, mainly because Israel is supported by Imperial US.

Idk, I guess I don’t see the point of the distinction, they’re both still defending authoritarian atrocities along ideological lines.

Unless the point is that they’re nominally communist and that somehow makes them uniquely or especially bad?

If that’s the case then it more seems like we’re being selectively critical of communism, not authoritarianism.

tankie is has a specific meaning, ie a communist who will enforce his will with a barrel of the tank, refering when USSR invaded its EE satellites to prevent popular liberalization.

what makes them bad is justifying state violence.

communism is a separate topic from the tankie imho. they are just parasites shilling foreign state actors narratives or larping because life in williamsburg is too good.

Sure, but how is that meaningfully different than a Zionist enforcing his will with a barrel of a tank?
