They’re really digging in on this shit, huh? Here’s hoping enough people pass on their games because of it that Sony regrets the decision.
I remember being “sorry” for doing so to Helldivers 2 🤣
Nah, they said sorry, they didn’t do anything different. They still restricted the purchase regions of the game to those that can get PSN. I expect a return of the PSN requirement for Helldivers 2 eventually.
What do they gain from this shitty policy?
Angry players? 180 less countries buying their games? Padded PSN account numbers?
Enshititifaction.
I knew Sony would double down on this shit. They always make these stupid business decisions.
It’s sad because they actually had a fairly decent run with their PC ports until now.
The ports itself are good. It’s the suits are fucking shit up. Typical capitalism enshittification story.
Wow, I was going to argue by bringing up the atrocious performance of The Last of Us, but looking at reviews, it seems all its major issues got fixed.
Now you can argue by bringing up Until Dawn’s port instead from what I’ve seen
Nahhh, not like they have a history of being shit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AyVh1_vWYQ
We are talking about the company that installed rootkit back in the age of CDs.
Wait a minute.
WHY TF IS HORIZON ZERO DAWN GETTING AN REMASTER!?!?!
WHAT IS THE POINT? What stupid idiot thought this was a good idea???
And that bloody price tag! €50 for accessibility features and slightly better performance? Why… Why is this a successful way to make money? … I… I’m sad now.
Because if they remaster it, they can also remaster the price.
Which is probably why they’ve pulled all the old versions.I’d pay $10 to forget facial animations of the original one.
I’ve got a bat. It may take a few tries, and you might forget some other things, but you get what you pay for.
Another option is alcohol. Repeat doses until you get the desired effect.
Edit: Looks like the game is still on GOG without PSN requirment.
Sadly, based on reviews for the game on GOG, while the game is technically DRM-free (in that it doesn’t Emily any of the traditional DRM like Denuvo), it still requests either full or limited data collection.
It requests it but doesn’t require it. True, you need to select “limited” or “full” but you could just disable the network or firewall it. I run it in a container without networking on linux mint and it works perfectly.
Kinda wanted to pick the game up at some point. Weird, I seem to have suddenly lost all interest. Huh.
Get the original on GOG without DRM or forced PSN.
Game still requires either full or limited data collection in order to play. It apparently asks you for permission after the intro cutscene.
I’m running the gog version through wine with disabled networking for that container and it works perfectly. I forgot that the game has a telemetry option until I read this. Pick it up on gog, it goes for ~10€ every time they have a sale.

Cool. I force a no-psn-requirement for games that I buy.
There is no psn requirement for this game (on the gog version at least)
Yo fucking ho my boys
So glad I didn’t buy any Sony PC port yet. I will pirate every single one of them.
Just don’t play them at all. Pirating still gives their games attention that will lead to extra sales when compared to a complete flop.
I want to play them. Sony PC ports are objectively good games. Maybe you subjectively don’t like some but you are a minority.
They lost sales from me. Given time, I would probably buy all of them. I usually always buy games. I have 800 games on Steam.
Nestlé products taste good. Does my Nestlé boycott still count if I steel it?
Only if you steal directly from Nestle.
Only if you’re borrowing the hot chocolate and allow them to walk into your kitchen and repossess it whenever they want.
I feel the argument is a little different when it comes to physical goods.
Stealing a Nestlé product takes away revenue just like if it were left on the shelf, never purchased, and discarded by the shop. The main benefit there is the edible portion of the product doesn’t end up in a landfill.
It’s the same when I look at my dignity. When I boycott a company or a specific product, I don’t even want it for free.
No more Rolo, even when it is a gift.
If more people held themselves accountable, these products wouldn’t exist. I know it can be an awkward situation to deny a gift for ethical reasons. Kudos to you.
Are you saying you wouldn’t steal from Nestle?
I wouldn’t steel from anybody, but if you want to make it the lorry problem, yes I would rather steal from an evil company than a less evil.
Doesn’t mean I start stealing.
Problem is, the games are fun. Had a hell of a time with the second game, and unleashed the 100%er in me
Edit: The games are genuinely high quality, with interesting and constantly evolving mechanics and often good stories. That’s not something you see in big titles anymore.
They are great games and I want to play them. Their pricing policies just suck.
Microsoft should find a way to capitalize on this. Sony is really fumbling here.
Behold, the Xbox Series X Ultra for $899*
*Charging cable sold separately
I don’t see how they could capitalize on this specific bullshit other than to just keep on keeping on and not joining Sony in requiring a new login for a service you, as a PC player, might not even give a shit about.
Unless they can get away with porting Bloodborne to PC or something… 🤔
Don’t they do it too? (I don’t know because I don’t have a PC)
Ok. I’ll still play the game with no PSN. They’ll just not get any money x it. 🤷♀️
Keep re-releasing it so I can not buy it again and again.
This happens when there is a lack of competition. If MS didn’t shit the bed with xbox in this generation, Sony would be trying harder
They’re competing with PC now and simultaneously trying to turn this into a vector to convert people to PS5. It won’t work, but the fact that there are PC versions at all show how they can’t just do what they want with impunity.
It’ll be interesting to see what Sony will do considering they’re not going to pull PC players to PS and PC ports open to door to piracy which is definitely going to increase with the PSN shit. I doubt the PSN data is so valuable they’re just going to let people pirate their games. Either they’re going to pull out the PC market to prevent piracy or they’re going to get rid of the PSN for PC. The latter makes too much sense so it’s probably going to be the former.
After investing in Nixxes, I doubt it.
I’m curious: How do you think someone “shit the bed” with xbox, when Gamepass is incredibly popular and successful?
Sony has sold double the consoles this generation (60 vs 30 million I think). And the Series S is very unpopular with devs, increasing the complexity of developing games for Xbox to get just half the PS market.
Game Pass is popular, but it’s just one stream of revenue, and a lot people are only using it on PC. Sony is selling consoles, 70 EUR games, and in addition their own subscriptions.
I understand MS’s strategy, and maybe this was the best they could have done for this gen, but Sony and Nintendo is dominating console gaming, with MS lagging far behind.
Don’t forget how much money MS is spending on these game company acquisitions just to close other studios they already have that released great games instead of funding them to make even more great games. I feel as though game pass really relies on getting more customers to sign up for its success and eventually there will not be enough to sustain itself and that is why we are already seeing price increases and changing of the tiers
Nintendo just doing what they’ve always done is ironically what gamers have been calling for all this time. Just make fun games with no silly BS.
Say what you will about Nintendo’s litigation strategy (its to protect the value of their IP in their mind), but they’re kind of crushing it even compared to Sony.

Sold consoles isn’t that great of a cathegory to judge the two, since both lose money on every sold unit.

Get ready for the same thing to happen on the vanilla PS5. Devs will target the PS5 pro for trailer footage and the games will run like shit on the old PS5.

It’s very cheap to offer and if they don’t need to sell xboxes to have a wider customer base, that’s a bonus - not a drawback.
but Sony and Nintendo is dominating console gaming, with MS lagging far behind
We’ll see how far they’ll be lagging behind once they leverage their Call of duty monopoly.
- Even if they sell at a loss, the number of consoles mean the potential number of buyers for games. More consoles sold means they can sell more games and other profit generating products/services.
- Sony is barely selling any PS5 Pros as there is a low interest at this high price, which is unlikely to change in the future. The current console is not even fully utilized, lot of recent games are still PS4 cross-gen. 0 chance of the base PS5 being left behind
- MS will not make COD an exclusive, as they will not give up on the chance to sell a 70 USD/EUR game to 60 million PS5 users, which is double the size of their own market
- You said yourself that a lot of gamepass subscriptions were on PC. You know how many people own PCs?
- That’s what happened with the Xbox one X and the PS4 pro. Game devs want to make their games look best for trailers, so the graphics will be focused on instead of optimizing for the lower tiered consoles. It’l be like “if you want stable 60fps, you’ll need the PS5 pro”.
- Starfield already didn’t come to the PS5. There even was a version for the PS5 in development.
Starfield already didn’t come to the PS5. There even was a version for the PS5 in development.
Point to Sony then
Why? The argument was that MS wouldn’t make CoD exclusive, when they’ve made the highly anticipated Starfield exclusive.
I don’t think Sony is making much more money than Microsoft is, though. They may have sold twice the consoles, but the generation is brutal in terms of actual profits.

Now I don’t feel so bad about buying it a few weeks ago and barely playing.

For real, up until Horizon, I had never played a Sony game at all. What a shame. For them.
How does this differ from a forced Microsoft login in eg. Forza Horizon 4 or Halo?
Totally missed that part. That is nuts. Thanks
176 countries? wtf, why?
Sony hasn’t done the paperwork to officially do business in those countries, so you can’t make a psn account. And because Sony is intent on forcing psn accounts, it leads to this stupid situation where those countries are locked out, despite Steam supporting them.
