There’s only so many jobs that can be automated before there simply aren’t enough jobs. We’re about to reach that point.
Once you automate intelligent jobs, what jobs are left?
A better metaphor is the car putting horses out of a job. What happened to horses? They didn’t all magically get new jobs to replace their old ones. What is stopping the same thing happening to humans? Except the people who owned the horses are instead the owner class that owns the robots/AIs.
Once many struggle with finding a job (not to mention… many already are), what will happen on a societal level? Will we be willing to redistribute wealth to make sure everyone has a decent standard of living even if they can’t find a job? We haven’t been willing to do that so far.
