    Much of eastern Ukraine is occupied by Russians for generations now and AFAIK it was through natural means and not imperialism. So schooling the population there with a Russian agenda isn’t really imperialism.

    But “schools are never imperialist” isn’t exactly a great argument. Schooling is one way imperialists spread their influence. Why do you think Vietnamese, Latinos, and many Africans write in Latin for their official languages with little to no knowledge of any system before?

      That’s good point. Honestly, my reply was just mocking the libs who call everything Russia does ImPeRiAlIsM and there wasn’t much more thought put into it.

      To the extent that there was deliberate ethnic cleansing under Imperial Russia (and to some extent the USSR) it wasn’t ethnic Ukrainians being displaced from Novorossiya, it was Tatars displaced from Crimea.
