While playing beta I was shocked to read the changes to ring of haste by reducing the effect from 20% to 17.5%

Now I am waiting for the drop currently to try and experience the changes but Iam really disappointed reading about the nerf

Has anyone tested the ring? Will the turns be impacted to avade the monsters significantly like requires more upgrades than before?

It’s a small nerf to prevent haste abusing like it was before. You see, with haste +4 before huntress could outrun every melee enemy in the game and kill it with the spirit bow. Haste helps with food, positioning, getting distance, exploring. Like this IS a lot for a ring. That’s why it got nerfed a little bit. But it’s still viable

Previously, you only needed +3 to move at double speed, and you don’t need that to kite monsters. I just played mage with a +2 Ring of Haste (the new version in the beta), and I was kiting monsters all the time: just walk away and eventually you’ll get an extra turn of movement. Zap the enemy, they step next to you, and you repeat. I ended the game with extra food, so all the wasted turns from kiting didn’t negatively impact my game. Though, honestly, I did a lot of melee, too. I wasn’t kiting all the time.

Just don’t walk more than one step away from a ripper or succubus or they’ll leap or teleport to you.

    Tl:dr: It’s fine.

It was due for a nerf. It’s too good. Every time I’d get one, I’d say in my head, “Oh, guess I’m playing easy mode.” I will wear a Ring of Haste over any other ring or artifact. That’s a bad sign gameplay wise. It does too much.

    • Let’s you trivially escape melee without using any tricks or consumables.
    • Let’s you easily chase down Scorpios.
    • Makes it super easy to dodge evil eyes.
    • Makes you use less food.

At any rate, I’m playing the beta. This nerf didn’t change any of that. I had a +1 Ring of Haste for most of the game. I could kind of tell it wasn’t as good as it used to be, but it didn’t matter. It’s still the most OP ring in the game at low levels. I’d say Ring of Wealth is more powerful, but that one only really shines when you dump upgrades into it.

The only thing that’s noticeably different is that a +3 Ring of Haste will no longer double your movement speed. A +3 one used to give you +107% movement, but now it only gives you +91%. Not all that big of a change. Approximately one turn in nine you won’t get the free movement you were expecting like the old ring would have.

With the old ring at +0 you get a free movement once every 5 turns. Now it’s once every 5.7 turns. Hardly noticeable. I never counted turns when using the old ring. I knew eventually I would gain distance from melee by running, or catch up to a Scorpio when chasing one.

If you make the new ring +4, you get +124% movement. So one extra upgrade to exceed double speed.
