Lemmy isn’t set up to create a set of fairly moderated communities with buy-in from users. It is set up so anyone can be a dictator on their own server.
Yup. But thankfully, it’s also set up so they can quickly become dictators of their own little desert island.
Users can still quickly leave until they found a fair admin

And when the fair become unfair then we move onto the next, as it should be!
I feel like relying on benevolent dictators only to run communities isn’t the best option.
That seems fairly un-hobbity, with all respect.
At some point one instance is going to have democratically elected mods and admins, that would be interesting.
In the meantime yeah, we are still using other people’s servers
That’s the beautiful thing about lemmy. If I don’t like the current dictator, I can easily switch to a more benevolent leader.
