I had it backwards for a really long time because you draw / from front to back (ie you write it in a backwards direction) I thought that was the back slash. That still feels right to me despite being wrong.
I always remember the difference by imagining them as lines on a graph. Forward slash is the line with positive slope and backslash is the one with negative slope.
Hmm far fewer comments on Lemmy this morning lol. Poor IT folks… I’m sorry.
It sucks so bad. Today I learned a lot of users don’t know the difference between forward slash and backslash.
I coded for 15 years and I still don’t.
Forward Slash… / …leans forward.
Back Slash… \ …leans back.
Or is it
Back Slash… / …because the bottom is back.
Forward Slash… \ …because it’s forward at the bottom.

So damn easy to mix them up
I was going to say… I just call them Linux/windows slashes, but idk forward vs back
Is that the squiggly one?
lol ouch. I luckily never updated my laptop so I dodged the bulk of it lol.
I’m in IT and I’m still here, commenting away!

I’m in IT, I am not affected but will express my sympathy in between handfuls of popcorn!
