This scene has one of my favorite jokes in B99. About the officiant being efficient. It’s so dumb but the way Kevin delivers it makes me crack up.

Kevin was the reason I have started to recently watch B99 for the first time. I thought he was HYSTERICAL in The Good Place and equally as charming in the Good Place podcast. I knew he was playing a gay guy but sort of forgot about it by the time I started. Finding that out personally was a huge pleasure. As well as Holt. Between The Good Place and B99 I can’t think of a single bad take on gay jokes or gay characters. All of them hit for me.

My headcannon is that Kevin is Shawn following in Michael’s footsteps as an attempt to grow past his demon-ness

The whole episode is gold but Kevin and Jake as weird perverts never fails to crack me up.

You know the writing is brilliant when Kevin is the ‘straight’ man to Holt and his wild emotional swings

Marc Evan Jackson is so funny. First saw (heard?) him on the Thrilling Adventure Hour and I’m always delighted when he shows up in something else I’m watching.

        Omygosh!?

The Hero of Mars is also Kevin on B99?!

        This made my day.

I’ve been a huge fan of his film and voice work for years, but somehow I never made the connection.

This reminded me of a friend I had in high school who ended up going to the same university as me, but we rarely talked. I found out that he got married to a guy before gay marriage was legal in a public ceremony. I ran into him a few months later and I asked him how his marriage was going and he said something like, “him? I didn’t even like him, it was just to protest gay marriage being illegal. We ended that right away.” Fair enough.

He died a few years later of cancer. I miss you, David. You were a weird fundie Christian who was still a weird fundie Christian when you came out of the closet, but you were always a nice guy. Even when you told me I was going to hell for being Jewish, it was like, “hey man, I like you a lot, I think you’re cool, it’s just that my pastor says Jews are going to hell and I can’t do anything about that.” And then later, “good news! We got a new pastor and he says Jews are the chosen people, so now you’re going to heaven!” Like I said, weird fundie Christian. But a nice guy I wish I could still talk to.

Apologies for rambling, I haven’t thought of David in some time (apart from telling that last bit as an anecdote occasionally) and the memories came flooding back.

one of the fun parts of being subbed to 196@blahaj is that there’s a shitload of LGBT jokes that I can enjoy, as a cishet person.

I appriciate the novelty of this comedy that is new to me.

Whenever I see “cishet” I pronounce it in my head “sishay”, like how one pronounces sachet. Makes being cishet sound pretty fabulous.

Don’t worry friend, gay relationships are just as much of a mess. Humans are all messy. I hope therapy is as helpful for you as it has been for me!

I’m sorry you’re dealing with that mate, that honestly sucks, but at least couples therapy and coparenting isn’t a uniquely cishet experience, so you’ve got community to draw on for support wherever you go, best of luck.

Same. Demographically I’m almost as vanilla as they come (middle aged white suburban dad) and I love this community. It’s just fellow humans posting funny stuff, even if a lot of people that look like me would have a problem with it for very stupid reasons.

I loved Andre Braugher in B99. I haven’t really seen him in anything else (the Mist!) but he was great. So sad he passed so young.

I am not LGBTQIA+ so I can’t comment, but the B99 jokes usually punched up. It is one of the few shows that generally made LOL on first watch.

Dude, Andre Braugher was so talented. I saw him at a performance of Hamlet at Central Park for a school trip and I don’t think anyone has ever seen primary school kids enraptured by Shakespeare like that. Even my teacher was surprised.

That’s kinda what I want my wedding to be like.

“Okay, here we go! The short short version: Do you?!”

    “Yes!”

    “Do you?!”

    “Yes!”

    “Good! You’re married. Kiss her!
