Yea, airline’s maintenance staff still needs to do a thorough and correct job. It’s the same issue Boeing has, the more time you put into doing things without cutting corners, means less profit. Having two ‘goals’ at odds with each other will cause issues at some point.
Boeing’s long and storied past is just that: past. Boeing today is nothing like Boeing before the merger. Like all capitalist organizations, they’ve hollowed out the mine of reputation for short term bonuses given to the 1% and in doing so have sold off the company’s biggest asset - it’s name - and its association with safety and safely designed and built aircraft.
The part that really sucks is when Boeing inevitably implodes and files Ch 11 it will leave Airbus a monopoly on passenger aircraft.
The thing that worries me the most is that a lot of engineering experience and culture will be lost in the process. It’s not an industry that can easily fill such void.
