It’s when the Americans already went to bed but the Europeans didn’t wake up yet. I’m in South Korea and around lunch even sorting by “New” doesn’t give me any new posts, sometimes up to one hour.

I know it’s a cliche but try posting yourself. That’s the only way places like this grow. I don’t particularly enjoy posting so I try my best to keep conversations flowing and add discussion to posts without much going on. Every little bit helps.

To that end, what’s your favorite thing about South Korea? I don’t really know all that much about it. Are you from there or working there or what?

Nah mate this is the best time of the day to comment. All the shit we say becomes what they open their eyes to in the morning.

Same dude. But you make me look like a God damned casual 😅

Someone needs to make a leaderboard for the most active Lemmy users, that’d be really entertaining

Hi Jeena! What instances are on your federation lists for jemmy.jeena.net? What “languages” are selected for the federation/your profile? There’s a few active instances at this time, but does depend on if you’re subscribed to them, and the languages they send (and your instance accepts).

So I only browse my subscribed ones which are all in English, German, Polish and Swedish. On the Korean one it looks like I’m the only one posting there ^^

Check your settings for https://jemmy.jeena.net/admin. Is Private instance checked? (Probably shouldn’t be). IS federation enabled checked (It should be) Anything listed in allowed instances? What about blocked instances? Languages should have everything listed, including Undetermined.

No worries technically everything works with my instance, I’m just subscribed to communities which don’t post much around my lunch time.

I’ve found commenting later than the first batch of commenters isn’t as much a problem here are it was on Reddit. You’ll still get votes and replies.

I have a sleep disorder so I’m always awake through the night. For me I kinda appreciate that it makes it easier to stop scrolling, cause there’s not anything new showing up and I’ve already seen the posts for the day :)

I can see how it’d be lonely though. Perhaps I’m used to it cause my sleep disorder is isolating whether I’m using lemmy or not

I hope you have a lovely day today :)

I realize now my wording was unclear 😅. The former. I go to bed around 9am-12pm right now, and wake up around 7pm-9pm.

I have a very weird schedule, but I do sleep. It’s isolating because my daytime seldom overlaps that of others, if I never slept at all I’d have TONS of time to spend with folks

Ah, yeah I could see how that could be a challenge. Hopefully you can at least talk to people in the morning or before they go to bed.

I do, it’s always nice getting to say good morning to folks as I’m on my way to bed. And sometimes I end up skipping sleep in order to do something that requires I be awake during normal hours (like doctor’s appointments, my friends wedding) and its always nice to hang out with folks on those days ☺️

I’m grateful my friends also often stay up later than they normally would to hang out, and I often try to wake early for social time :)

Hmmh, your post shows 04:50 in the morning. That’s definitely a time even the insomniacs would be asleep in Europe.

It’s a bit better for us. When I go to bed, the Americans from the east start to come home from work. (And there is a good amount of Germans here on Lemmy.)

I wish that Lemmy, or my app, had a translate options. I’m interested in the rest of the world, but I’m a product of the US education system so I only speak one language.

Agreed. It would be a very unique lemmy client feature to have! At the moment, I use lemmy almost entirely on my phone, so I’m able take a partial screenshot and have my phone translate the screenshot in its place. But I will admit, it’s still quite inconvenient.

And hello from Europe (sweden)! I visited Korea last year and whilst I wasn’t using Lemmy then those time difference really made it hard to talk to anyone who happened to find them self in Europe.

And for a solution to the problem, maybe there are some Korean communities with a bit more activity during that time?

Hi Jeena, I’m visiting South Korea right now and also noticed the drought around that time. How can we get more Koreans to use Lemmy, I wonder?

Probably by creating good content on Lemmy in Korean and linking to it from where the Koreans normally are ^^
