Description: Microsoft ad with a man on the right doing a hand sign associated with star trek and wearing a white t-shirt and black glasses with thick borders. On the left the text reads white on black " Resistance is futile - get AI-ready with Azure" Blue button says “learn more”.
The “hand sign associated with StarTrek” is called the Vulcan salute 🖖.
And the phrase “Resistance is futile” is also regularly used on the show, repeatedly uttered by the Borg on every encounter, preceded by “You will be assimilated”.Some unsolicited trivia for you.
I actually knew that, and knowing the source (some evil guys in this case) makes it even funnier.
Who’s Al? Is that Al?
Nobody is Al, this is just bad dictation software misunderstanding that you’re supposed to get Azure already.
I can call you Betty
And Betty, when you call me
You can call me Al
Al is going to get you too
That’s just AL, and he’s sick and tired of being confused with AI due to the lower case L.
i’m no marketing expert but comparing your product to the fictional all consuming hivemind hellbent on absorbing all life into itself does not sound smart
Is this a terrible ad?
Yes, this is a terrible ad. It says so in the description:
[…] Microsoft ad […]
Indeed
Meant like… resistance is futile, you kidding me?!
Kidding is irrelevant. Your interpretation is irrelevant. Surrender is inevitable. You will be assimilated.
Yeah, it’s like a Star Wars themed ad saying “feel the power of the dark side of the force! Use your hate, buy Microsoft things!”
It’s ironic how unironic it is.
