You think so? Because I’ve seen a ton of liberals all over Lemmy (and other social media) jumping to defend Biden for enabling genocide, and specifically blaming any critisizm of the Dems from the left on Russian propaganda. In communities that -by every right- ought to be leftist spaces too.

Sounds really weird, libs don’t really tangle with Dems, maybe because Dems are just a moderate version of the GOP

Ah I see, didn’t even think about this being some community specific thing, I was pondering universally, and even restricted only to Lemmy I mainly browse all

Liberalism is a right-wing ideology, so it’s no surprise there’s crossover between the Democrats and Republicans in the US. The liberal worldview upholds capitalism and imperialism, and it always eventually devolves into fascism, which is what we’re seeing now.

There’s a reason rule 4 exists in this community. There’s a place for communities where we can interact with liberals and hope to wake them up, but there’s also a place like this for leftists to talk to each other without the constant screaming of right-wingers. Liberals are arguably even more dangerous than straight-up fascists since they are far more enticing and deceptive, and they sugar-coat their hate in the cloak of politeness. (Unless they’re talking to anyone to the left of Reagan, in which case they start screaming at us in frustration and using dehumanizing terms like “Russian bot,” since they don’t like being exposed for what they are. I personally have DMs calling me a “bot,” “Nazi,” “troll,” “psyops,” “useful idiot,” “fascist,” and “tankie” – I’m an anarchist lol.)

Visit almost any default news or politics community on reddit or here in the fediverse on .world, and you’ll definitely see this happening.

I agree with you though that Democrats are basically just another GOP at this point. They’ve always been, but the mask has really come off since 2020.

I’ve commented somewhere else that the most key quality of a lib is that they strive to dismantle the things that hinder liberties. Nowadays it’s clear that the biggest authority is capitalism, thus logically any right winger can’t be a lib. Fascists have appropriated the term tho and try to disguise as neoliberalism (creating lots of convenient confusion), which seems to be the main agenda in the US.

I’m using the definitions here and here.

Also, speaking as mod I’m starting to feel that you’ve come here to defend liberalism, which violates community guidelines. Let’s let this be the end of this.

Sure, I have no personal stake or opinions in this. Just to clarify, I’m not defending anything, and as your other comment mentioned you being somewhere in the anarchist area, so am I, if that helps out.

I appreciate that clarification, and I don’t think you are trying to start a debate. Just be aware that we have users here who have experienced trauma via liberalism as I’m defining it – for example, my own family members being dehumanized, labeled “illegals,” and subsequently incarcerated and deported under self-proclaimed liberal leadership, while being told that it’s ok since 70% of people believe there is a “border crisis.”

I suspect you and I agree on a lot of things, but I hope those links help see what I’m talking about. Liberalism as I’ve seen it defined always seeks to regulate or fix the system from within, often through incremental change.

Liberals are not saying the first line, or if they’re saying it then it’s not sincere. They keep lecturing us about how we need to tolerate fascism currently manifesting toward other marginalized groups because a hypothetical scenario would be worse. Liberals have shown repeatedly that they have a level of fascism they consider acceptable.

First comment is suggesting that perhaps using the “trolley problem” as an excuse to overlook the harm and genocide of marginalized groups isn’t useful and we need to dismantle the system.

Two commenters echo liberal state propaganda talking points, one even going so far as to introduce a strawperson – “Oh you want us to do it while…”

Both commenters are very clearly establishment liberals, but I’m not going to link to their profiles because I refuse to introduce the possibility of brigading into this community, so you’ll have to take my word for it, sorry. Go visit any news community on lemmy.world in a post criticizing Biden, and you’ll see this type of thing.

They’re very clearly not stable people by your description, I however don’t see where those kinds are enabling people to be free and with liberties as libs do. If they parrot the establishment, they’re against libs

Not sure what you mean, but I’ve come to understand that anyone who uses the word “liberal” or “lib” as an insult or to negatively describe a group are all effectively on the same level, and they should not be taken seriously. Grad and ml are both as bad as hexbear as far as I’m concerned.

Did you not notice that this is an explicitly leftist community? If you think liberals are included in that, you may need a reality check.
