Just like with the semi-finals, this is the live thread for the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
As there is (to my knowledge), no Lemmy equivalent to https://reddit-stream.com/, the best alternative is refreshing the website about once after each song. This should still be okay for now as this community is relatively small.
Sort by New to see the newest comments or additionally click on the Chat button to break the replies apart and even show the newest replies.

Thanks to @You@feddit.de, there are some links for the Grand Finale:

Highlights from the Dutch broadcast (paraphrased):

    • “The EBU reminded us that we’re contractually obligated to do this broadcast.”
    • “Instead of the Netherlands we skip to Isreal, good thing they are completely uncontroversial.”
    • “Everyone makes mistakes, the EBU also knows a lot about that.”

Switzerland is just really great. How he’s able to sing while leaning backwards and spinning on the disk, it’s insane. And additionally to that, it’s the hardest song of the year (I’d even say by quite some margin). His singing talent is insane and I love the song itself as well. It’s just beautiful.

Deserved in my opinion. And they seem to be Conchita’s favourite too.

Yea, I was looking for someone to point that out. That’s almost opera-level singing.

I don’t understand why this person is getting so much hate. I admit, the song is not to my personal taste, but I I was wow-ed by his vocal abilities.

Felt that as well, the song slaps.

And also Joost had his own Rammstein moment…

Ireland is quite unique and should get extra points for a their original performance.

I saw that. It was very cute and he took the crown on stage with him. Lovely stuff. They seemed to have a genuine bond.

I went grocery shopping today and got myself some extra treats for today. The theme they have in common: Comfort and unhealthy.

    My tier list:

    Top

    • Ireland. Bambie Thug is a legit talent beyond this competition. I look forward to what they do after this.
    • Spain. A classic. Top five, possible winner.
    • Switzerland. Fun mix of genres, great performance.
    • United Kingdom. The song grew on me, and the staging is still amazing.
    • Croatia. Energetic, though there are a couple better performances in this competition.
    • Greece. Sounds like Mediterranean reggaeton in the best way. Is it my imagination, or was the camera work better during the semis?
    • Netherlands. It wasn’t the very best, but it was a first-tier Eurovision song.
    • Estonia. Lots of fun.
    • Norway. Great song, great staging.
    • Armenia. Fun song, energetic performance.

    Mid

    • Lithuania. Upper mid tier. Decent dance song, great performance. I like the outfits too.
    • Luxembourg. Upper mid tier. Solid song, decent staging
    • Sweden. I like it better the second time around, at the top of the mid tier.
    • Finland. They’re trying something fun, at least
    • Ukraine. Another song that grew on me, but still mid-tier.
    • Serbia. A very good, though not outstanding, song.
    • Italy. Nice beat, awesome graphics, bland song and dancing.

    Lowest

    • Austria. Nice boots she’s wearing though.
    • Portugal. Nice masks on the dancers though
    • Cyprus. Unimaginative.
    • Slovenia. Ok song, but there’s a lot of competition.
    • Israel. Everything else aside, it isn’t that great of a performance.
    • Germany. ISAAK is giving it 100% but it isn’t that great a song, and the staging is bland.
    • Georgia. This is fine.
    • France. He has a great voice, though.

I’m slightly offended (and very amused) that your bottom tier is called Germany.
I mean it’s true, but don’t kick us when we’re down

Edit: Please change it back! It was the perfect Freudian typo

Oops formatting error. (I can’t change it back, bc I’m part German descent, and those ancestors are already very disappointed in me, I’m sure.)

I’ll just use your comment to post my favourites as well:

      1. Ukraine
      2. Armenia
      3. Italy
      4. Georgia
      5. Luxembourg

Lets see if any of them has a chance to win. (And luckily I’m German, so I don’t need a rank for Isaak, but hostely it’s not a bad song.)

I wonder how the voting would have been different with Europapa. I think Croatia would have considerably less televoting as many people switched from Netherlands to Croatia (a post suggesting to do that on Reddit literally has 10 000 upvotes). But otherwise, I don’t really know what would have been different.
I’m still really heartbroken for Joost and I definitely hope that this all will be resolved with strong consequences for the EBU.

If Netherland wouldn’t have happened, this would have been such a great ESC. But yeah… they just needed to fuck it all up.
Honestly, while I’m happy about Switzerland (and Germany tbh), I’m just… still feeling awful, because I feel so sorry for Joost, as this was so important and emotional to him with his parents. I really despise Österdahl and the EBU right now for taking that from him.

As far as I know, they weren’t banned, there was just no-one willing to be a spokesperson lol. But this is just what I heard from a comment in a thread, so don’t take it as verified.

Nikki de Jager (who was supposed to be the spokesperson) said on TV that it didn’t feel right to hand out points. The Dutch broadcaster then told the EBU to just figure it out themselves.
Käärijä (Finland) also stepped down but got replaced, and Alessandra (Norway) already stepped down earlier because of Isreal.
