You might be surprised to learn that most modern bikes get their muffling from the catalytic converter under the frame. The pipe tech has also improved a ton over the years to where a straight pipe no longer means unbaffled.
For example: The one with the straight pipes here (in the back) is no louder than the one in front with giant mufflers.
Any time I hear one of these loud straight pipe abominations I just assume the rider is a complete ass.
