I don’t think that’s an accurate portrayal of the other argument. If we do nothing, then the worst outcome will come true. If we do something, then a kinda better outcome happens.
To be clear, I’m on the fence myself. I wouldn’t donate to Biden, volunteer, campaign, or support his run in any other way, but I might vote for him in the full election. I don’t see how voting for anyone else in the election could be worthwhile. I’m sorry but I don’t believe any third party candidate could win.
I’m where you’re at. If you’d asked me even a few months ago, I’d have said I’m definitely voting for him in the general election. After watching him lean into the genocide, border “crisis,” and now even LGBTQIA-phobic policies, it seems increasingly clear that he’s bound to do everything I fear from the worst alternative. (Though as another user here has pointed out, perhaps it could always be worse.)
It’s a pretty strong possibility that, all things considered, voting Biden may be best since it at least seems like a marginally slower descent into fascism – but harm reduction?
And as someone who’s had to stand by and watch my assaulter be publicly praised, I also try to see this from the POV of a Palestinian who’s lost everything due to my president, or a refugee suffering in one of our concentration camps, or a political prisoner being tortured in Gitmo. I’d rather die than praise him, and that’s not just me being melodramatic.
