He lost the elections. Final. There should be no more room to talk.
⬆️ Someone doesn’t understand parliamentary democracy or is confusing elections with the football league.
I said there SHOULD be no more room to talk.
The entire point of the parliamentary system is to create room to talk. It’s right in the name.
PP has more votes than PSOE. PP should have the main role in a coaliton with PSOE, the second place. Instead, PSOE has made a megacoalition with regionalist parties that do not represent the rest of the country in order to remain in power.
The PP had the first few weeks after the elections to gather the numbers, but no one wanted to make a coalition with the PP except VOX (far-right party). It’s normal that the other parties did not want to have anything to do with it.
Even with PP and VOX, PSOE’s coalition has more seats in total. PP wanted to form a coalition with PSOE, it’s PSOE that rejected it because then Feijoo would be the PM and not Sanchez
Again, that is how a parliamentary system works.
Again, it isn’t ethical and should be changed.
Nope, the loser is feijoo because he does not have the numbers.
Neither does PSOE, by itself. No party has over half of the seats therefore there should be reelections.
No single party has had over half the seats in Dutch parliament in my lifetime… maybe ever? I don’t even know, maybe in the 50s or before world war II.
It might surprise you but we haven’t had continuous elections for the last 80 years…
I think you simply lack some fundamental understanding of parliamentary systems.
Yes, I’m aware of the way it works. I’m arguing that it isn’t done right, at least here, and should be changed
Democracy is built on compromise and consensus. Even within a single party, members and representatives must negotiate a consensus about what positions and policies they want to pursue. To say that consensus building within a party is acceptable but between parties is not (which is effectively what you are doing here) is completely arbitrary and doesn’t make sense.
PSOE has done a coalition with multiple parties including the catalan seperatists and bildu which contains members formerly a part of ETA instead of with PP, because if they do a coalition with PP then Sanchez wouldn’t be the president. Besides, I don’t think Junts per fucking Catalunya is representative of the Spanish?
And the PP founders ( formerly alianza popular) were all ministers of the previously regime (fascists dictatorship). And yes, JUNTS and ERC are representative of Catalonia, equal PNV and EH bildu for Basque country.
They are more representative for the spanish people than junts or pnv or eh bildu ever will be, for better or for worse.
Except for, you know, the fact that Spaniards voted for them.
Junts, ERC, Bildu, PNV combined have 25 seats combined. PP has 137.
Today PSOE will have the numbers. In a democracy it is better to have different parties ruling than just one, it is more representative of the population.
The Catalan seperatists are a very small minority of the national votes, and is not representative of the Spanish population. The most logical thing to do in this situation would be coalition between PP and PSOE, but then pedrito wouldn’t be the president would he?
The problem of PP is the coalitions with VOX (the far far right party).
PP wanted to form a coalition with PSOE, not VOX. (mostly because they still don’t have a majority over PSOE’s coalition even with VOX)
Nope, PP prefer to go with VOX better than PSOE, and no other party want anything with VOX, which is normal.
PP is not interested in VOX because a coalition with VOX would not guarantee them a victory, they definitely would form a coalition if it did though, no doubt in that. Feijoo has asked Sanchez multiple times before and after the elections to form a coalition.
