I don’t think this is being proposed as an answer that will solve the problem on its own. Set a clippy profile picture, self-host, do whatever else you can as well toward the same goal. No need to restrict all our eggs to a single basket.
whelk@retrolemmy.comto You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK about Changing your Profile Picture to Clippy46·5 days agoPeople whenever something like this (particularly protests that aren’t violent uprisings) happens: “It’s not a sole and immediate solution, so it’s pointless. Also I’m not going to provide a realistic sole and immediate solution that I’m personally willing to act on or lead. Might as well shut up and go quietly.”
I get that it’s frustrating, but stop trying to slam the door on people trying to build up an environment of resistance, solidarity, and hope. If you can encourage that energy into a more effective direction, then by all means: lead the way. Trying to appear like some savvy intellectual superior and just telling people they’re wasting their time isn’t the way to do that.

I put Spine on our office playlist and it was awesome when someone else recognized it. That game’s soundtrack is incredible. Also how dare you not include Bastion in the Darren Korb list
I’m at the point where every time someone yells at me for protesting and tells me how useless it is, I chalk that up as a little sign of success, however small. If this guy is taking time out of his day to rant at me at length about what I’m doing, that means others are likely taking notice too.
Do I think protesting is going to magically solve the issue? Of course not. But it’s something I can do to bring attention to the issue, spread awareness, and encourage others who feel the same way but might feel alone or unsupported about it. I’m always happy to hear about what else I can do to better effect, but somehow that never seems to be something the naysayers are willing to provide. It’s always just tearing down, no advice or building up.
You can also put a bedsheet over it and make a bubble house
Nobara had some issues updating correctly for me, but I haven’t seen anyone else express that
This is why I stopped using it. I could never find anyone else with the same issue or any advice on it either. Glad to find out it wasn’t just me after all

I never have the heart to tell them, but I do try to leave an actual supportive comment of my own to sort of balance it out

I always see a lot of discouraging responses whenever protests are brought up. I don’t think protests on their own will solve most major issues, but they’re indicative of people caring enough to start going out of their way to do things, and can have awareness and ripple effects on a population.
How about instead of discouraging people from protesting as if it’s pointless, encourage them to keep up that energy and recommend what else they can do now that they’re all fired up and engaged? Why not fan the flame instead of raining on it?
I’ll take one ticket please. Awesome seeing it animated

Cast magic missile, make him dance
Edit: can you make the spell deliberately miss? I tend to avoid playing casters
This is still my default. One day I’ll break the habit
I’m always puzzled when people tear these things down rather than use them to build into something greater. Channel that energy while it’s there and people are fired up! If someone has ideas that they believe will be more effective, now’s a great time to pitch them - and without insulting the people they’re pitching them to.
