  • Picked her up used for around 80 USD in Seoul. I’ve been cycling for a long time, although I cycled mostly as my main means of transport, and not for the sake of cycling. I’ve always been intrigued by the idea of fixed gear bikes and how minimal they were, so I decided to pick one up. Initially took me a while to get used to not being able to coast, but 180km (around 110 miles) later, I can’t imagine going back.

I absolutely love the feeling of being fully connected with my bike, and knowing that I have nothing to rely on except on my own legs to propel myself forward.

I only added a bell and front lights to the bike - I don’t even have the bars taped up. I pumped up the tires, oiled the chains and adjusted the seat height, but is there anything else besides that and taping up the handlebars that I should do for a better riding experience?

  • I’m new to Lemmy and kbin, so these points may be more a me-thing than a Lemmy/kbin-thing, but from what I can see:

    • Accessing Lemmy content from kbin is pretty seamless, but it’s difficult to access kbin from Lemmy.

    • kbin’s integration with Mastodon/microblogging fediverses is neat.

    • kbin seems to have more magazines catering to more of my specific interests and hobbies, while Lemmy’s communities are more generic.

    • This is specific to the instance I am on (beehaw.org), but I can’t access the Lemmy instance when I’m using ProtonVPN.

    • I just read through the Mastodon thread on how the Lemmy developers are not consistent with their own policies of human rights. While that doesn’t automatically mean that Lemmy is bad, I feel more comfortable using software by developers who are not known to be “tankies”.
