Because we’ve tied all value to capital and the only capital most people start with is their time. Aside from changing the system which I do support, the only thing you can do is play the game the best you can while minimizing the abuse of others.

Yeah, that’s true and it’s very upsetting that so many hypocrites would exist within the wider church. I’d argue that someone that doesn’t follow the teachings of Christ isn’t a Christian at all since that’s literally what the word means.
Every movement in history has hypocrites that follow it, and give the movement a bad name. Lumping “American Christians” together and then judging them based on the worst people who adopt that title is creating a straw man.
All American Christians that I know try and follow what you pointed out in your first sentence.
The statement on judging however is a bit misguided, Jesus didn’t say to never judge, but to be careful to avoid hypocrisy and to judge with love.

The human spirit isn’t meant to be caged in the way that the CCP does (Or Western capitalism does for that matter), eventually resistance will build up to a breaking point I hope.

otterpop@lemmy.worldtoMicroblog Memes@lemmy.world•Mostly downsides at the officeEnglish5·1 month agoYou don’t necessarily need it, but if you have a full time job that’s roughly a third of your time. Having a third of your time without social interaction causes you to need an extremely robust social life outside of work to make up for it, throwing things off balance.
I don’t think it has much to do with skill, I just wanted more balance in my life
otterpop@lemmy.worldtoMicroblog Memes@lemmy.world•Mostly downsides at the officeEnglish20·1 month agoI thought the same but over the years my perspective has changed. It’s not actually healthy to think like that about people you spend a third of your time with

It wasn’t the only factor but it was definitely one of them. Humans are social creatures at the end of the day.

This is an excellent list, Planetes is one I keep coming back to, I always have about it too anyone who will listen!
I’ll have to check out some of these others I haven’t seen.
Another good one is Monster, but it does have problematic relationships
This one in Matthew feels relevant here too:
19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust[a] destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

It definitely has its upsides, but it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows!
otterpop@lemmy.worldto Work Reform@lemmy.world•Scientists have been studying remote work for four years and have reached a very clear conclusion: "Working from home makes us happier."2·2 months agoI feel the exact same way after working from home for the last five years. The disconnection and pointlessness along with the reduced physical activity and terrible company corporate culture have actually resulted in me seeking out a job in an office again.
I think it may be better for mental health and physical health, depending on the company and their culture.

We rented a minivan at our destination, and it EASILY fit all seven people and luggage with room to spare and was more comfortable. It also was a hybrid and got > 30mpg. Definitely wanting to rethink that SUV purchase now.
I remember this being on a demo disc. Rapping in a dojo with some onion headed guy: “kick, punch, it’s all in the mind, if you wanna test me I’m sure you’ll find”
Must have been fire if it stuck with me for that long from just a demo lol
As a follow up, do you have any suggested reading material on the topic? You seem well versed.
I have a young child who will be using the web eventually and it terrifies me. I’m going to have to do something to lock it down to keep out the brain rot
