  • So we just don’t consider anything could be true unless we know for absolute sure it is? So we shouldn’t even entertain the idea that Epstein didn’t kill himself, as well as many other things? I understand that we shouldn’t go about throwing out theories and believing them completely without some solid evidence, but I think the other extreme of “epistemic hygiene” hinders us too. Certain things could turn out to be true and us ignoring suggestions of that earlier on could mean we don’t realise later. Again I’m not saying that the possibility I bring up in my original comment is likely or anything, just it wouldn’t surprise me really. There’s so many examples in recent years of powers distracting us from the bad things they’re doing with other things

  • Very fair reasons! Much of it are common things people say about it, even those that enjoy it

The story being hard to puzzle out on your own is understandable, I’ve never understood what’s going on well in ER or any Dark Souls game by just playing it. But I have to say, as someone who’s a big fan of a good story and deep lore, I actually really like that they do it that way. Even though it may not seem it on the surface, the lore is very deep in all the games. It’s not just item descriptions that show us it, the sparse conversations things you hear from NPCs are also part of it. There’s also lots of indicators throughout the world in just the environment. The fact that the only reason we know so much lore is because the fandom has pieced it together over the years with all these masses of obscure clues and evidence is really cool, to me. Also just have to say there are many different ways in which your characters actions affect little sub plots and the world at large. ER has a bunch of different endings and ways you bring them about, for example

As for the messages I totally feel you there, the fandom has a lot of memelords who tend to repeat the same things over and over with messages. You can actually turn those off though if you play the game offline, which is what I do. I’m not bothered about PVP and there’s plenty of times I’ve been invaded across the games at real inconvenient times, so there’s nothing that attracts me to playing online

I love the combat and always have but again that’s obviously subjective. I really like the diversity of builds you can do and how it opens it up to so many potential challenge runs. But yeah if it’s just fundamentally the way the combat is that isn’t for you then I guess just trying out different builds wouldn’t change much for you

Yeah this isn’t me trying to pressure you or whatever into giving it another go, even though I love these games I totally understand why a lot of people don’t like them. I haven’t been able to play a single one all the way through without having to look things up online, as have most others. There’s a lot of times in all the games where you just think “how was I ever meant to figure this out on my own?” They all have their flaws. DS1 and DS2 were both released unfinished and DS3 I think is actually pretty overrated, though still a fantastic game

Anyways thanks for explaining what you didn’t like. I didn’t intend to write back something like this, I expected what you would say would be entirely subjective. And a lot of it is but I just thought I’d give my thoughts on the rest. The irony of the longest posts I’ve written on Lemmy about soulslikes being in the BG3 community

  • Not saying it’s definitely the case but the conspiracy minded part of me can’t help but notice the attack on the synagogue in Manchester was very conveniently timed around when the flotilla arrived in Israel. Could just be coincidence of course but we’ve seen what they’re capable of making happen. This would be very easy for them. And this isn’t to have any disrespect towards the victims of the attack, even if it was a false flag or whatever it doesn’t make it any less of a tragedy. Plenty of Jewish people suffer generally because of Israel too

Edit: well guess I offended a bunch of people with this. Nice to see that we’re being no different to reddit here and just downvoting people we don’t agree with, even if that person isn’t being shitty about the opinion they’re expressing and isn’t claiming it’s true anyway, and not having an open discussion about the thing that’s been said

  • Opposites indeed! I’m curious though, what was it about ER that made you not able to get into it? If soulslikes just aren’t for you then I totally get that. It’s just ER isn’t the one I’d personally go in with, I feel like if I’d started with it then I’d be pretty overwhelmed and confused a lot of the time. Though that’s just me, of course

Also despite sharing most of the same style, they can still vary in gameplay a fair bit. Sekiro, for instance, is pretty unique amongst them. I actually had to install an easy mod on it (I know, sacrilege) to tone down the difficulty a bit as my brain just can’t hack it on normal. It’s very much a precise rhythm game in terms of combat. Whereas Bloodborne encourages you to charge in and just go berserk on enemies, something that my brain is much better with

As I say, if it’s just not your thing then fair enough. You may already know everything I’ve said here anyways, just wouldn’t want you to miss out on games you’d potentially enjoy, even if ER doesn’t do it for ya

  • “The more time our officers spend reviewing CCTV… the less time they have available for patrolling railway stations and trains, investigating crimes which cause the most harm.”

You mean like having them stand there in the station with dogs to stop people for suspected drug possession? Y’know, “harmful” crimes. I know that’s not the only thing they ever do but they certainly do waste so much of their time with pointless stuff like that, at least in certain cities

Exactly what we need aswell, people being more discouraged to use bikes and forcing people even more into getting cars and making our already overcrowded and dangerous roads even more overcrowded and dangerous. Wonder if there’s an easy solution to stop people taking bikes from the bike lock up areas? Like hmm maybe having them all be properly secure and the station employing one or two people to keep watch? Nah silly idea…

  • Yeah even putting this situation aside I wasn’t that gassed for GOY. I played GOT and enjoyed it sure, but it was yet another typical open world action-adventure game with no innovation at all really, basically the same gameplay we’ve seen countless times at this point. It just had a halfway decent story, which is a low bar for video games, and looked really pretty. And what you say is very true I agree, “by weebs, for weebs”

Edit: oh my god I knew there were apparently new gameplay elements in GOY. I hadn’t looked it up but suspected it would again be nothing new. And yeah most of it is but I did see they have something…unique. The “Watanabe mode” where it plays lofi beats music over you playing. So cringe

  • I just looked it up now seeing as I hadn’t heard of this either

From what I can gather one of the senior members of the development team, Drew Harrison, made a (mild) joke in a tweet about the suspected shooter in Charlie Kirk’s death. Loads of right wingers, being the thin skinned, wannabe victims but apparently “free speech warriors” that they are, harassed her and contacted Sucker Punch trying to get her fired, threatening to boycott the game and so on. Sucker Punch and/or Sony predictably caved and did so

If I’m missing anything, please feel free to add to this. As I say I’m only just hearing about it and haven’t gone on a deep dive about it
