excursion22@piefed.cato Toronto Blue Jays@lemmy.ca•💙 2025 ALDS Game 2: Yankees @ Blue Jays (Sun, Oct 5th, 4:08 ET) discussion thread 💙English6·3 天前A statement win, but it wasn’t really that way until the 7th.
I think Vlad’s homer was exactly what they needed to shake the nerves though. I feel Vlad’s susceptible to getting down on himself and that was exactly what he needed to start this post season.
Now in game 2 the bats are hot and the pitching ice cold. I’m excited for this run!
excursion22@piefed.cato Canada@lemmy.ca•Toronto ER costs, visits by frequent patients reduced with new housing modelEnglish11·4 天前There were similar findings in Regina about 8 years ago. About $18,000 spent housing someone with about $73,800 saved on average between hospital, ER, detox, and policing (2017 dollars). Here’s another article on it from 2018.
The difference that a stable, safe, and secure place to live makes is quite obvious, it’s sad this can’t get more support everywhere.

I don’t really expect anything to be mainstream for a couple decades, but that’s better than never.

excursion22@piefed.cato Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•America could have avoided all of this with a functional justice systemEnglish2·6 天前It would’ve been someone else if not Donny. Power has been consolidated in the executive branch for decades, while that of congress and the senate has eroded. A system designed to be trilateral is no longer so when one of the three can just nope out of whatever the other two say. The US has only been fortunate that it’s taken this long to have someone in that office with no morals.
It was already evident in 2010 that something like this was increasingly possible, as noted in Executive Unbound by Eric Posner.

excursion22@piefed.cato Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What does it take for you to determine someone has low intelligence?English31·8 天前One’s willingness to say, “I don’t know” and a general ability to think critically.
Just today, a friend was yammering on about a situation he clearly had limited information on (Canada Post strike). We’ve aptly described him as confidentially incorrect. Don’t be this person.
The American way.
excursion22@piefed.cato Canada@lemmy.ca•Daycare in Denmark is a basic right. Could Canada offer the same?English12·11 天前The $10/day daycare has been quite an improvement, however, there is definitely a lag in supply to meet the demand.
I do think a right to access to daycare with clear standards of education and care should exist. It really makes economic sense, both with more jobs in that industry, while also allowing parents to return to their jobs faster. They also wouldn’t need to choose between returning to work to barely offset the cost of daycare or just staying at home.
There are certain applications that don’t have alternatives. Sketchup comes to mind (with a specific addon). I have a Windows VM I use to run that for work.
excursion22@piefed.cato PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Escape from Tarkov owners will have to buy it again if they want to play through Steam, and the Steam version will require a Battlestate account anywayEnglish5·22 天前I agree, Single Player Tarkov was the only way I found the game playable. The bots could be decently balanced so there was still some challenge and risk to the game.
excursion22@piefed.cato Canada@lemmy.ca•This is absolutely disgusting. Parliament gives another standing ovation for a Nazi.English12·22 天前Read more than the headline, and social media posts arent news.
Yes, Charlie Kirk’s assassination sparked a conversation about the importance of free speech and disavowing political violence in parliament. The standing ovation was not for Charlie, but for the outcome of that speech.
Still, not very tactful and the speech could’ve definitely been written better to be clear that the call is for defence of free speech and denouncing political violence, rather than support of Kirk.
excursion22@piefed.cato Canada@lemmy.ca•NDP looks to scrap labour code’s Section 107, used by Ottawa to intervene in strikesEnglish33·22 天前I feel like this is what the NDP needs to do to start becoming more popular. Go against the government status quo and make meaningful change that benefits working people.
I don’t follow US politics too closely, but I feel like this is what makes Mamdani an attractive leader.
Probably so tonight’s game doesn’t conflict with the other series’ games this afternoon.
