Not a buff by any stretch.
Bands I would recommend trying if you haven’t heard of them before:
Fuel Fandango (partly sung in Spanish)
The Detroit Cobras
Robots in Disguise
Nova Twins
The Ting Tings
C2C (specifically the album Tetra)
Yaught (there’s more than one band with that name, the one I’m thinking of made the song I Thought the Future Would be Cooler).
Heart
Wet Leg
…
Off the top of my head, that’s a good start :-)
SharkWeekto Movies@lemmy.world•Have you seen any shocking/over the top movies? “Extreme horror”English5·2 days agoThreads (1984), not super gory but really fucked up when you know it’s basis. It hasn’t aged well, but as a piece of history is worth watching IMO.
I had waking-up-screaming nightmares about the ending for about 6 months, but then it hit close to part of my trauma, and I watched it where it’s set.
SharkWeekto WomensStuff@piefed.blahaj.zone•What's something about you that's unconventional?7·2 days agoI once knew a girl with 4 nipples, she very enthusiastically showed them to me once … and I completely missed a great opportunity by being amazed and then carrying on with my day.
I am not a smart woman.
SharkWeekto WomensStuff@piefed.blahaj.zone•What's something about you that's unconventional?2·2 days agoBoring and rough really doesn’t narrow it down for places to live in the UK …
If you’re up for a face-off over most boring and rough places to live, I’m willing to bet I’ve lived in rougher and boringer at some point ;-)
Oof, that one really hits home.
Getting my hair done regularly. There were a couple of years after a got the point of not living hand to mouth when I’d go at least every month if not every couple of weeks … and it petered out.
These days my wife trims it to length a couple of times a year, as long as it’s not lopsided I don’t really care how it looks, lol
Also, System Addict by 5 Star was 1985 IIRC
V for Vendetta.
The original graphic novel is good, but very dated to the feel of the Thatcher years.
The film has aged a lot better and it smoothed out the pacing, making it much more enjoyable IMO.
Yeah, he needs a lot of support and I don’t want him thinking I wouldn’t help him … he’s a good and social guy, and really ties the team together.

Thank you for putting it into perspective :-)
And yes, he was definitely scared. I’ve been told that I’m physically imposing so I generally try to eminate a fluffy persona, and that’s what my coworkers are used to.
Thank you, I needed to hear this from an outside perspective.
I’ll give some thought as to how I can tactfully say “now is not a good time”, unfortunately my job revolves around people being able to interrupt me, so I’m also thinking I need some strategy for putting my feelings to one side and picking them up later … I never expected it to be easy, lol
SharkWeekto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How far are you away from your "spawn point" (place of birth)? Do you currently consider that city/town to be "home"?2·8 days agoAbout 1600km, and fuck no. Hit the ground running when I was 16 and never called anywhere home again.
Me too today, hope we both feel more 9 tomorrow!
SharkWeekto WomensStuff@piefed.blahaj.zone•Childbirth is no joke... I'm in awe of anyone that got through it!4·9 days agoIt really wasn’t, soon as I was out I was taken away for 2 hours for something (she was never told what) and when she got me back she was convinced I wasn’t hers.
When I had mine it was not fun, but in a different way.
I have a lot of love for the rare women who are natural mothers. I wish that were the case for everyone who wants kids.
SharkWeekto WomensStuff@piefed.blahaj.zone•Childbirth is no joke... I'm in awe of anyone that got through it!11·9 days agoAbsolutely this. And we’re made to feel shame and like it’s our fault if it doesn’t all go swimmingly and we’re not glowing with happiness.
My Mum is 85 now, she has never processed giving birth to me in a healthy way.
SharkWeekto WomensStuff@piefed.blahaj.zone•What's something you've bought that your younger self would lose their mind about?2·9 days agoYeah, I’m in Spain and when I went on my license course most of the people taking it were women … my other half also loves shooting but doesn’t want the hassle of taking the course.
She said if we lived in the US we’d own all the toys, but then if we lived there we’d want to leave, lol
Absolutely this, I had one assigned therapist/* who really turned my life around and it was all because she’d been through the meat grinder when she was younger too.
