LemmyThinkAboutThat@lemmy.myserv.oneto SaltyCaramelApple@sh.itjust.works•Does anyone actually use the Shortcuts app effectively? What for?English1·4 days agoFor photos. At least I used to.
I used it to remove EXIF data on iPhone photos, I’ve made photo collages, my nieces and nephews like to use it to make GIFs and turn the lights on and off - Lol.
There’s a few “Theft Protection” shortcuts but the ones I tested required leaving the Shortcuts app running in the background along with Location Services which drained my battery quicker.
After a while, it just got bloated IMO. I prefer Automator especially when I have a lot photos to scrub. Sometimes I use Session Messenger which removes metadata from photos (not videos) so I don’t have to download another app just to remove EXIF data.
Freeform is what I’ve been using lately to make photos collages, memes, etc. It took about 5 minutes to make the collage on this post . It seems that anything Shortcuts can do can also be done with another stock app.
LemmyThinkAboutThat@lemmy.myserv.oneto SaltyCaramelApple@sh.itjust.works•using apple devices without apple accountEnglish1·4 days agoSame here.
Unfortunately, you can’t use AirTags or any Apple services without an Apple account so you may want to hold off on deleting your account.
Unlike Android/Google, the Apple stock apps will work just fine, it’s the backup part (iCloud) that won’t. If you haven’t already, you need to decide if you want to backup your data and how.
I stopped using iCloud and de-Googled during the pandemic (I’ve had crossing time zones and syncing issues before). So I won’t be hysterically crying like I did the past two times because iSync, then iCloud deleted rmy contacts, calendars, notes, photos, etc.
Whilst I still use Apple stock apps, I hurriedly replaced them with the Proton ecosystem and still depend on my EHD. However, many people advise against putting all of your eggs in the same basket. I also use Disroot, Standard Notes and Ente just to name a few.
It seems like you’re doing very well and ahead of the de-Apple game. I also did not download any apps on my MBP but there’s a few on our house computer (iMac); I only log in to update apps and the OS. Good luck!

Voyager is my primary and Arctic is my backup. I agree, Arctic loads more content and makes it easier to upload photos (IMO).

In case somebody’s curious, here’s a link to the Postcrossing website.
Hello. Is that regular flour empanada wrappers dusted with cornmeal or did you make corn wrappers?
(I am lazy and buy the Goya wrappers) 😁 Looking at that is making me hungry!

In case you’re feeling patriotic, they’re based in the UK. It won’t break the bank. I don’t know your skincare preference but I prefer the No7 Future Renew™ Damage Reversal Night Cream and the No7 Derm Solutions Daily Lightweight Moisturizer during the day. Most of the gentlemen I know prefer the lightweight moisturizer.
Maybe you can get a sample and try it out first to see how you like it.
Aveda is also very good and a little pricier. If it matters to you, they are owned by Estée Lauder (along with Clinique, MAC, Origins, etc.). Good Luck!
LemmyThinkAboutThat@lemmy.myserv.oneto Privacy@lemmy.ml•What are you going to do when the internet starts asking for ID for everything?English5·5 days agoI’ve been seriously thinking about going back to Nokia. De-googled a few years ago, stopped using iCloud and switched to cross-platform and open-source software.
Currently, the Murena Fairphone 4 is the only one you can use in the US (Fairphone doesn’t directly deal with US customers) and incompatible with Verizon and AT&T. They recommend T-Mobile for US coverage.
Also heard about Cape here on a Lemmy post But Fairphone is “not eligible yet”.
This is the old Nokia 3650 that’s in my drawer. I loved it! Then AT&T made me upgrade because they were no longer supporting the old networks.
Thank you, Zerush! It’s nice to know that someone else thinks the same way.

I do love Kuhol with and without the gátâ (coconut milk). My grandmother used to make it and that’s how I fell in love with those ugly snails. Yum. Frogs legs are delicious!
D@mn! Now, I’m hungry and I miss my grandma.

Ditto. Also:
- Try to use Memoji to make fake ID
- Go to the mall =O
- Go to the library
- Go to the brick and mortar places I used to visit before getting everything online (eg. bank, fam owned businesses)
- Talk to people instead of AI (going to practice that this weekend)
- Go for a walk outside instead of updating the firmware on treadmill
- Buy stamps! (and stationery, no more ecards or evites)
- Learn to plant food in addition to flowers
- Use iPhone to make phone calls
- Maybe buy a newspaper… maybe
- Use my cookbooks more (after I dust them off)
- Think of a new name/alias(es) for myself and start acting the part
…just to name a few.

If you think that you’ll regret it later on, you can always make a deposit to a sperm bank. These days, I highly doubt it’s covered by insurance. Also, you need to do some research (and a lot of phone calls/emails); some places are so damn strict that you need an appointment just to get info.
A friend did that before, he has no regrets. Good luck, young lemming!
EDIT: Just wanted to let you know that I’m a hypocrite. If you were my son, I’d talk you out of it.
Don’t forget to buy a bag of frozen peas!
