I’d go with a basic straw cowboy hat. But a boater would be way funnier.

I always think of that Camus bit. One must imagine sysiphus happy. The prospect of revolution in the core is 100% absurd, but what the fuck else you gonna do? Give up?
Liberal and alt-right school shooter are the two possible political ideologies. Which side are you on?
I guess some Estonians think “there’s too many racists in Estonia” is itself a racist comment or kremlin propaganda or whatever. Idk. Honestly I’m a little tired of all this bullshit, and the people complaining about hexbear at this point have seen enough explanations of why NATO is a scourge on the rest of the world that If they aren’t convinced now they probably never will be. We’ve had a few cool newcomers from that instance but if the diehard lib blockheads wanna defederate so be it.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard the term postmodern gothic before, but I feel like it could describe a lot of things I like. Your take on it is intriguing anyway. What’s the article?
Fight back by organizing shoplifting gangs so effective they drive Walgreens out of town.
The ol’ switcheroo! An idea so crazy it just might work! Mad lads. Hat’s off them, honestly.
Pros and cons definitely. For my part, most of the low stakes jobs I’ve had were pretty taxing and paid very little. Happy to be doing professional bullshit now and not as worried about money all the time. Downside is that I do find myself thinking about work stuff more on my off hours, getting anxious about things, having to be engaged on a more serious level much of the time. And I also had to get super lucky to even end up where I am now. But I also feel like I am doing something that more or less aligns with my values, which is cool. But if doing lower stakes work leaves you with more time and energy to do stuff you actually care about outside of work, I could see that being a better route. Maybe there’s a happy middle ground out there for you somewhere too. Teaching is definitely a cool vocation if you can find a good gig.
Liberal thinks the shitty neoclassical economics taught in 99% of universities is economics itself. Imagine my surprise.
“The other party” implies that there is a party representing the left/workers. I assume you are talking about American politics, and are specifically implying that party is the Democratic Party. To which all I can say, if you are actually serious, is LOL.
True enough. Though I can understand being a little reticent about a full on war. Shitstorm it kicked off may have been a little tougher for them to weather 8 years ago (though the fighting itself certainly would have been easier). Not exactly the same situation as Stalin before the war, but sometimes there’s reasons to hold back or play for time.
This is mostly what I wonder about. Is it cowardice that is keeping Putin from whipping the central bankers into line, or is this somehow a political impossibility? I know we in the west are very good at pretending there is something inviolable about the independent central bank, but that doesn’t line up as well with my (albeit limited) understanding of the Russian state.
“Corporate goth.” Had to google that one. Pretty much what I expected, but never imagined I would see those two words together. What a time to be alive. Anyway, seems cool. I say go for it.
Curious about this too.
Holy shit. How did people ever get it in their heads that drone strikes are not military incursions? Is it because there’s no humans physically entering the territory? Would you think the same thing if we were lobbing artillery shells over the border?
And how would doing either of those things without the cooperation of the Mexican government be anything other than an act of war?
I mean, I get that there is a difference between sending an armored column to occupy Juarez and a drone strike, and it’s not clear from the title which one we’re talking about, but you can’t really dispute that either of those things would be an act of war under any meaningful definition.
It’s an insane thing to say, regardless, because if you know anything about US Mexico relations you know he’s not talking about some kind of cooperative anti-cartel police action. He is in fact talking about an act of war. And a particularly stupid one at that.
Yeah, was just joking. It was of course never on the table for the soviets, and would be an absurd thing to plan in the first place. I doubt even deng ever thought China was doing anything more than developing their productive forces and buying a modicum of security by opening up. The idea that the west would be stupid enough to deindustrialize itself (by offshoring to a communist country no less) to the extent it has makes sense in hindsight, but I doubt anyone had the foresight to anticipate things turning out quite like this, let alone actually plan it.
They’re after that “peaceful coexistence” the USSR could never achieve because they failed to see that in order to peacefully coexist they first had to absorb most of the west’s manufacturing capacity.
Hell, I dunno. I just plug my laptop into a regular old tv via hdmi.
I realized a year or so ago (after a letter from my isp) that I didn’t actually need to torrent anymore. There are websites like bflix.io (and I’m sure many others) that have basically everything streaming for free. Fuck subscriptions. Would maybe go back to torrenting if I got a vpn sorted out, but you’re not gonna get in trouble for streaming shit on a pirate website, so for now it’s the best solution I’ve found. Certainly not paying any of these assholes. Lol. Fuck outta here with that.
I’m over it. Just gonna sit out in a lawn chair in the meadow for the rest of the summer. Maybe fall too. Tired. So tired of everything.
