I found a VHS player at a second hand shop and got into buying and watching VHS before the pandemic and it was actually relaxing. Even with DVD/Blu ray I can’t get as immersed as I was with watching VHS. I would know that at night I was going to watch D.A.R.Y.L and just kick back and not get off the couch. It was a whole thing…power surge fried my player and haven’t found another one yet

  • I don’t live in Canada, here from " random community ".

Fuck road salt! They know when they need to use it but spray that stuff all over the roads in my state at a hint of snow. Piles of it sitting next to a stream and then we don’t even get snow, just rain, it’s insane. They used to use a mix that was far more sand than salt in it until the late 90’s (maybe even early 2k) and it worked just fine people got where they needed to go. Now with more cars having AWD they should need it less but now it is just straight up 100% salt crystal. It rots out cars and destroys the environment.

I stopped and talked to a worker for USGS (United Stated Geological Survey) and asked them what they monitor at a station down the street from my house at a small stream , i figured it was fertilizers or petroleum/ chems from surrounding suburban sprawl or a major 4 lane road that crosses a few miles upstream. They told me “salinity”. It’s from the road salt and they monitor it so they know how bad it is, nothing else.

The stream is a feeder creek to a secondary larger stream that feeds a river than a bay. I used to fish the secondary and walk my dog along it a few times a week and it got way worse over the course of 20 years that I was actively fishing.

They really need to be more judicious with the amount of that junk they put down as most of it is wasted and seems to do more harm than good.

There are rural areas near me that have stations for distribution of the salt and people I know who live there have poisoned wells and received a one time offer of $25k to replace damaged plumbing. The problem is even if they install a reverse osmosis system over the long term they still lose money.

  • Hell yes ! Plants kick ass !

Big pothos fan myself. Have a nice Brazil , a few silver ( fuzzy leaves) and the regular (wish I knew the name but the common version) pothos growing wild in my place. Some of the runners are 30’ long and go around corners into the next room 😁.

They seem to do well in every location , I just adjust the water for the degrees of lighting.

I’m about to chop up a pilea that has gotten out of hand. It was a stunning specimine , very full with about 20 pups then it started getting leggy and dropping leaves. It is in a huge pot but got rootbound. So all my friends are about to get plants to take home 🤙

  • I’m a little older and while all my buddies were on the internet in the early days it didn’t interest me but I was well aware of how it functioned.

I was a reddit lurker back when it was cool and a place to gain knowledge (depending on the sub) then a few years back finally becoming a user until the last couple years seeing it really go down hill fast turning into a typical " social media platform"

Leemy gives me a sense of nostalgia for something I missed out on in the past. …And I don’t feel like an asshole scrolling in my spare time

  • I have not , my sister has an app like that , possibly the same one , I’ll have to ask her about it.

My father is pretty good with bird identification and would always point them out on walks in the woods.

I got hooked on field guides after getting a few as a kid for birthdays etc. I’ve collected several editions of Petersons and National Audubon field guides . I highly recommend both . NA has actual pictures but Peterson’s have rendered images of the birds in flight, their seasonal plumage and are a bit more comprehensive .

  • That would have been a memorable experience ! Nature kicks ass ! I too am a fan of blue birds of all kinds. Im lucky enough to have dozens of bluebirds, quite a few indigo bunting and a whole mess of Bluejays flying around my home. A few other notable birds I get to see regularly are piliated woodpeckers ( the big woody woodpecker types) , yellow flickers and my personal favorite ( which really arent that special but theyre my #1 for their personality alone) the Carolina wren.

Wish I wouldn’t have seen the blue shitbird though

  • OK thanks ! I saw a list of " instances " at the bottom of the page and it showed a list of 5000 randon terms like you described .

I am truly not tech savvy at all but I like to learn. Terms like embed are foreign to me but I can figure all that out :)

I’m on mobile , so if I download another app will the view be different or a better experience?

And not that it bothers me but while I got ya here … When I’m scrolling and open a thread then back out of the thread I have to scroll all the way back to where I backed out of (if that makes sense). Is that just a feature of the way the sight is set up / runs ?

  • The best way to render it is to

    1. heat up a plate in the microwave for about 1 minute.

    2. remove the plate and place it on a stable surface

    3. add product to the plate and crush it with a credit card. This will remove all the moisture.

It will be reduced to the finest powder possible. It will last longer and less will go further. You can enjoy it like an adult and just take bumps. A gram will last 24 hrs of casual use and will be absorbed much easier when all the moisture is removed from the product.

There are tiny plastic screw top vials ( made of HDPE I believe ) . If you live in the US home depot has them free in “drinking water test kits” usually found near the plumbing isle or sometimes by the cash registers. They are water tight, keep everything dry , won’t break and the cap makes a good place to dump a bump or two. They will hold a little over a G of fine crushed powder. I suggest also getting a small spoon available on ebay or etsy to deal it out and a small piece of a straw to insuffilate.

On the go , make up a few 00 gel caps with a line ready to rock, sneak off to the bathroom or walk around the corner to “make a phone call” and a quick sniff of the hand and your ready to get back to the party.
