I have watched every film and every episode of every series of Star Trek. It was glorious, the only thing I didn’t really enjoy was the animated series.
I saw a lot of TNG when it was on TV when I was younger and always loved it so a few years back I decided to just watch everything trek available. There’s so much, I can’t quite believe I actually finished it all.
It’s been a long road, now bring on Strange New Worlds!
So, I have a story about Star Trek the Animated Series.
My friends and I used to watch it in college, but it was a drinking game. We watched it in Spanish, with no subtitles (and none of us speak Spanish). And there were certain things they said every episode, and everybody drinks when they say it.
“No es logico, capitan”
You’ve had first complete watch of Star Trek, yes. But what about second watch?
Now you can join the rest of us in rewatching it all over and over!
I’m on season 7 of DS9 of my… how many times have I watched this? I’ve lost count. A few days ago I had to watch Tears of the Prophets. Always a sad episode to watch. Voyager is next in my queue.
Thanks! Honestly it was hard to resist starting again immediately!
The great thing about it is there is so much to get through, by the time you’ve finished it the memories of the beginning are fading.
I’m excited to watch it all again!
Lol right? My wife and I are usually watching through at least one series at any given time…
Believe me, I know. As I’ve said, I’ve lost count of how many times I have rewatched everything. I’m looking forward to watching Voyager again as soon as I complete season 7 of DS9.
I never really got hooked on DS9. I only watched it in the background while doing other stuff.
Would you tell me about the things you like about it?
I would love to give it another shot and i think hearing what other people like about it would help me see its good sides!
There are a lot of things to like about DS9. I’ll try to name some without spoiling anything.
One of the main ones is the fact it shows a darker more realistic side of humanity that at the time wasn’t present in other Trek. It feels a little more “grown up,” I guess?
Another is the caliber of Avery Brooks’ acting (and the rest of the cast,) but Avery Brooks in some of the episodes is just truly amazing…
- Far Beyond the Stars
- Past Tense
- The Visitor
By second to third season the cast really gels and you just love every single one.
All the crap O’Brien goes through (you will finally truly understand all the memes)
Worf joins DS9 season 4 and adds even more great stories and interactions within the cast/crew
The entire overarching plot of the Dominion war and how it impacts the Federation (federation… heheh)
The whole Sisko / Emissary / Prophets story line across the entire 7 seasons and how he grows into that role
All the Holosuite episodes, but especially “Take Me Out To The Holosuite”.
All the Klingon episodes and interaction… Gowron, Martok, Worf
There are so many good characters, not just the core / Sr. Officers / main cast
GARAK… Garak is worth watching the entire 7 seasons just by himself.
Dukat, Winn Adami
Liquidator Brunt FCA
Romulans…
Ferengi… MOOOOOOOOOGIE… ROM and Nog… The Grand Nagus… and of course Quark… Little Green Men
THE DEFIANT (one hell of a ship)
To name a few… I could go on.
And of course, there are always the oddball episodes that continue to be a running joke within the DS9 community…
Move along home!
I think its characters that feel more like people with lives beyond the show, the balance it has between arcs and standalone episodes, and its exploration of the universe from the ground level are things I really like about DS9.
Well done, that’s quite a commitment. I watched a lot of trek as it aired, but I’ve still not quite seen all of TOS or ENT - and I’ve skipped out on the Kelvin films after 2009.
The most surprising one I think has been Prodigy; I didn’t expect it to be as compelling as it ended up being.
I kept prodigy until last because I was convinced that it would be too childish but it was superb!
I love murf!
I think it’s one of those really good category of kids shows that are written with the parents in mind. If you’re going to watch something with your child it rather helps if it’s good.
Me too but I preferred pre-cocoon Murph. Biped Murph is just not quite as good.
I admit I was a bit sad but kids have to grow up I suppose!
I’ve been on a marathon since April. In order I’ve watched Discovery season 2-4, SNW, TNG, DS9 and am at season 6 of Voyager. I’ve also broken up Voyager with the first 6 movies.
I did manage a couple of ToS episodes but I honestly find ToS hard to watch.
Voyager is feeling like a slog so it’s not background viewing while I work from home and I’ve switched to The Orville for my evening viewing recently with a plan to watch Babylon 5 after.
There were parts in The Orville that made me cry with laughter.
It’s honestly so good? Season 2 and 3 were AWESOME in terms of being legit sci-fi and funny.
I was surprised because I don’t really like family guy or any of the other stuff he’s done, but the Orville is so brilliant.
I had the same initial thought, but I had remembered seeing him give interviews and thinking “this guy’s got more to him”. This was bolstered by his involvement in the Cosmos reboot (which also involves Brannon Braga).
Voyager was such a slog for me too, I stopped by season 6, or skipping lots of episodes to get to Endgame or so like 4x. I only ever completed it start to finish for the first time with my friend this past year.
It’s a lot of content. I don’t have time for all that, so I rely on people like @ussburritotruck@startrek.website to help fill in my blanks in information with their “Canon Connections” posts :-)
Personally, I’ve seen all of Discovery, Lower Decks, Prodigy, Strange New Worlds, I saw all of the movies over a really long period of time, and most of TNG. I’ve seen a handful of TOS and the others, except for TAS, which I’ve yet to touch at all.
It is a lot! Those cannon connections posts are great even if you’ve seen it all, I never pick up on most of it when I’m watching.
We spoke about starting a Star Trek Lemmy instance on Reddit! Didn’t we? I guess someone beat us to it.
I did post that I was thinking about it. Someone contacted me shortly after, and said that was something in progress. I guess this is it? :-D
Yep - we were trying to keep it quiet while we got it all sorted out, but y’all kept trying to jump the gun!
i am glad i didn’t just go ahead and do it. I got bit a little bit by going out on a limb and selfhosting a Mastodon for a few days right after it became a public thing, a few years back. I still get traffic on that port sometimes, even though it only was up for a few days before I decided the amount of CPU/Disk wasn’t worth it to me, and the problems with the federation were pretty huge at the time. Not sure if any of that has even been solved…
So I didn’t just jump at this. My initial thought, though, was that I wanted to create an instance that had subs for everything I subscribe to on reddit, and then just share it with the world. Good thing I’m more cautious these days, I think.
Must be! Can’t beat the domain startrek.website. Still can’t believe it was available.
I was seriously considering starting up a second instance just for Star Trek over the weekend. I’ve already got one instance though, so maybe it’s best someone else did it first.
You could beat it if .trek could be a TLD - or maybe starship.enterprise 🤔
No! I already have too many domains! But… starship.enterprise?
Sadly, if predictably, “starship.enterprises” is already registered.
LOL - I also just checked.
Ugh and it’s one of those spammy “were just sitting on the domain till someone pays us reams of cash” sites
I plan to get thru them eventually, I have only completed Enterprise as it was shorter.
I am about 1/4 of the way thru each VOY, TNG & DS9.
I loved enterprise, I didn’t think I’d be able to stop thinking ‘that’s the bloke from quantum leap’ but he’s captain Archer to me now.
Trip was great, I loved phox, t’pol, porthos and Malcolm.
My favourite episode was the one where archer got his brain mashed by some anomaly and t’pol spent 12 years explaining the same thing to him every morning.
I could understand people being disappointed that TNG was over and feeling that the replacement wasn’t as great, but in itself watching it 10 years later I enjoyed it for the most part.
I think watching all those hours may actually change your brain wiring. Hopefully for the better.
I couldn’t really tolerate the animated show, or Babylon 5. But everything else has passed through these neurons at one time or another. Fortunately, it’s been so many years, I sometimes come across an episode I can’t remember and it’s like getting a new one.
Strange new worlds is amazing. It feels actually true to TOS, without just being nostalgic. I feel like Gene Roddenberry would be so happy to see it, and recognize it as his universe far more than any of the other 21st century trek.
Having grown up on TNG, VOY, ENT, and a bit of TOS and DS9, I got back into things with DS9 and TNG on Netflix in loke 2012.
In 2020 started watching Star Trek in the chronological order, I started at the end of February, not knowing it would become my primary pandemic activity.
I have notes in OneNote that I’ve been meaning to turn into something interesting and shareable, but I haven’t found the time.
Sounds like a great idea for a blog or #digitalgarden, or just a stream of toots
Go for it 🤘@Trekman10 @astroturds @t0fr (same user here) I did make this account to be dedicated to fandom and #StarTrek in general…
