I love how some people complain that the itemization & skills are so bad because of streamlining for the older now casual generations, but completely ignore how much Blizzard adds FOMO content like this to semi force you into the game, which is like the complete opposite of catering to casual players.
It sucks, but it’s also not just blizzard. So many games are trying to keep you playing 24/7.
And say what you will about halo infinite/343 but at least you can complete the battle pass even after the season. It’s not perfect but it’d be nice if that was adopted by more games.
I’m well aware that it isn’t just Blizzard. I’ve said this many times over the past decade and every time you’ll get massive amounts of backlash for it from people who defend such tactics as merely being “incentives”. But an incentive does not go away if I can’t or don’t want to play at the time, it will wait for me to be there whenever I want.
I wasn’t trying to defend blizzard at all. Just saying that the big budget/multiplayer games are all kinda in a shit place.
And I agree using fomo is fucked up. But I do think it’s fair that they need money to continue to make content and upkeep servers. Though they’ve definitely gotten greedier and greedier.
I wasn’t disagreeing with you but rather adding to that point you’ve made. Yes, they need money, I need money, everyone needs money. That does not mean people & companies should use predatory tactics though. I quit Warframe over the same bullshit, and they don’t even ask for money for their battlepass and typically pool the rewards into the later ones somehow (usually through the store that comes with it, which you earn currency through the battlepass for), so there’s at least a “seasonal” chance to still get missed rewards. I still think it’s garbage but at least I don’t have to pay for being semi forced to play at certain times and in certain ways, instead of it being based on my time and how I want to play.

This is what I hate about battle passes.
So many games I’ve really enjoyed, I just stopped playing after missing a few tiers of a battlepass, or a few day s of consecutive log in rewards.
I don’t get FOMO so much as if I’ve missed it, I just don’t want to play anymore.
I really wish this game didn’t have a battle pass

They make money from the box price of the game, they continue to update the game in the hopes of selling more boxes.
They do the same with expansions. Expansion sell two boxes. The original box and the expansion box.
The idea that micro transactions funds the development of the game is false industry propaganda. Micro transactions are purely for profit
There’s no way candy crush puts $10 billion a year into development cost. Same idea for Diablo.
