Jon Stewart kicks off his Daily Show Monday night residency by coming to grips with the reality of America's two chronologically challenged presidential cand...
Yeah Jon Stewart, the guy who is famously all about the money lol. Also everyone knows it’s not going to last because all the marketing says he’s a temporary host only on Mondays… What exactly is the point of your post here? You’ve provided no new or interesting information but seem desperate to neg TDS and are failing to do so miserably. This is one of the dumbest takes I’ve seen in a while.
A few things probably, because CC surely isn’t throwing money around.
He needed a break
Apple cancelled his other show because he talked shit about some things they didn’t like, effectively censoring him.
That’s what the opening here was about with the topics he feels free to discuss on TDS. He doesn’t want to be boxed in, and TDS gives him the platform to say what he wants to say, and just doing Mondays is a fair way to get involved again as a creative voice on the show, and let everyone else associated with it get reinvigorated about it as well after months of it being in limbo. I expect the ratings to climb again now that he’s back. The content of this one show speaks for itself. He’s great here.
You’re talking about now, but your original question was asking why he left in the first place, which I answered for. He took a break, the Apple situation sucked, so now he wants to be involved in the space and this is how. Nothing wrong with that. Listen to his closing, and it seems he’s even addressing that fact.
Yeah he doesn’t need a break now or perhaps one day per week is enough … he literally said that he was looking for an outlet for his opinions or whatever on the upcoming election.
What’s funny or sad is that I saw an interview where they were talking about his influence and Jon was saying that he had little influence because most of the things he didn’t want to happen have happened over his career.
One of the many things that turned me off Trevors performance, was that he always sat down before his guests did. Watch John, he’ll always let them sit first, as a sign of respect. Trevor always sat down first.
I know it’s stupid and small, but to me it spoke volumes.
Mr. Noah’s incarnation of “The Daily Show” drew an average nightly audience of just over 1 million viewers for the week ending Sept. 1, according to Nielsen, well short of the 2 million or more who tuned in for Mr. Stewart’s program by the end of his 16-year tenure.
But Comedy Central cited other positive trends in its decision to extend Mr. Noah’s contract, including growth among overall viewers, and viewers aged 18 to 49, over the program’s 2016-17 season. The network said that “The Daily Show” was on pace this quarter to become the most-watched daily late-night talk program among millennial viewers (aged 18 to 34).
Kent Alterman, the president of Comedy Central, said in a phone interview, “We have never had any lack of confidence in Trevor. Quite the opposite, we’ve never wavered in our belief in him, and now what we’re seeing is that the rest of the world has taken notice and expressed the same confidence.”
Also could it be, that you are a white middle class North American? Because Trevors stand up programs are hilarious. But he is talking about his international experiences, what it means to move abroad and deal with a complex family situation. I understand if that isn’t relateable for many people.

You’re saying people didn’t like him because he was black, and spoke of his international experiences. I don’t think so. I watched a lot of his episodes, and the writing just wasn’t there. Additionally, his interviewing skills are subpar. Often interrupting or talking over his guest, right when they’re about to say something interesting.
You have a host that people grew accustomed to. Over 16 years. So many people who started watching the show in their teens spent half their lifes with Stewart. And you have a new host who yet has to find his groove. Of course viewership goes down for a while. But that is not an adequate reflection of the overall quality of that host.
Imagine you start a new work and even after 5 years and a promotion to senior, people say "well in his first months he wasn’t like the old colleague we had for 15 years before that. That is not a probable metric.
Regarding the international experiences i am referring to his stand up programs. Of course something like “son of Particia” where he talks about his South African mom doesn’t resonate as much with John Miller from Nebraska, like it does with people who lived across continents.
Son of Patricia was OK. But it mostly relied on him doing impressions of people he grew up with. It was funny, but in a middling sort of way. It’s lazy joke writing that’s comparable to Larry the Cable Guy or Jeff Dunham.
Just because he’s black, doesn’t mean that disliking his performance is racist. In fact, it’s racist to suggest it. He’s just not as good as Colbert or Stewart. Not like I hate him, he’s fine. Just not as good at the Daily Show job.
Tevor Noah was really good, but he’s not on Stewart’s level, and unfortunately it seemed like all of the pressure and attacks on Noah really started eating at him, I hope Noah finds his groove again and continues to do good, but I’m glad Jon is back, we needed his gravitas for what we’re facing politically this year.

No Apple cancelled his show after he wouldn’t back down about an episode he had planned about China, Apple backed down because they are China’s bitch.

Trevor Noah was amazing.

Agree with you - I even tried to go see him do standup live after I was gifted tickets. The guy is not funny.

If Trevor Noah was so terrible and the ratings were so bad like you claim, why did CC prolong his contract by 5 years in 2017?

I mean if he was amazing then
