I was watching Kim Possible, a 16:9 show, which came out in the early 2000s and I was wondering why Avatar would be 4:3 even though it came a few years later?

It takes years for production companies to change their equipment over for big changes. Keep in mind the change from 4:3 to 16:9 also included a huge jump in resolution and the move to digital media.

Many shows would stay 4:3 till their end.

There where a whole lot of black bars and stretched content for much of the 2000s

maybe (idk, it could be the stupidest thing I ever said) it’s a stylistic choice

Just depends where you saw it. It was not created in 4:3. You saw a cropped version.

Wasnt Disney plus notorious for cropping video so that everything would be 16:9? Afaik they even destroyed a joke in the Simpsons through that

        Heres an “article” about it

Edit: The article is just about the cropping. I couldnt find a source for the Simpsons-situation apart from Reddit.

I forgot that Disney had a program called XD and was seriously confused at first why youd find this fact so funny

Maybe Nickelodeon and Disney just chose differently about that point?
