A volcanic eruption that has engulfed homes in an Icelandic fishing port confirms that a long-dormant faultline running under the country has woken up, threatening to belch out lava with little warning for years to come, an expert warned on Tuesday.

I did that fight every week, for weeks on end, trying to get the crossbow for my hunter. Now the phrase is permanently stuck in my head.

30,000 residents of the Reykjanes peninsula – a tenth of Iceland’s population.

So… there is basically no one in Iceland.

Iceland birthed Sigur Ros and Bjork. You’re historically the most important country on earth in my book.

We were told as much when we visited. Apparently they get upwards of a million tourists a year, three times their actual population.

Yeah, I was baffled how empty it is when I visited. Their capital is like a district in most other capitals.

      Still beautiful though.

Since I’m Icelandic I’m going to add a bit of context.

Nobody knows if it’s going to continue or not, pretty much everything is speculation and experts have a very wide range of opinions.

Since we had a couple of eruptions in the area recently there’s a good chance it will continue and it’ll have awakened.

What is geoscience?

Geoscience (also called Earth Science) is the study of Earth. Geoscience includes so much more than rocks and volcanoes, it studies the processes that form and shape Earth’s surface, the natural resources we use, and how water and ecosystems are interconnected. Geoscience uses tools and techniques from other science fields as well, such as chemistry, physics, biology, and math! Read more…
