U.S. Democrats should negotiate a deal with Republicans to reach a compromise on aid for Ukraine as a Russian victory would ultimately weaken the U.S., former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said in an interview with Politico released on Jan. 17.

Why don’t the Republicans ever have to compromise? And how do you compromise with someone who’s fundamental ideology is opposed to basic human rights and the mere existence of people who aren’t exactly like them?

He’s not wrong that America’s security is in part reliant on that of Ukraine, but which party is actively trying to block aid?

They’re from NATO and obviously don’t have great understanding of the political landscape in the US.

We’re so fucked now because Democrats have been compromising with zealots and reactionaries for a couple decades now. Any compromise at this point comes with more corporate tax breaks or removal of oversight from some sector or another (see the child tax-credit bill that just passed).

I agree with the sentiment, and hope a deal gets done, but compromising with Republicans tends to weaken our citizenry.

Republicans have literally thrown out two speakers who dared pass stuff with democrats’ support.
