He’s absolutely right. There is a very loud subset of FF7 fans who are absolutely nuts about shipping, and will fight you about it.
It seems really weird to me, cuz…I mean…have you played the game?! Have you watched Advent Children?! These characters’ relationships are laid out pretty clearly in canon, but any subtlety is lost on fans who only see what they want to see.
They don’t fucking care. You could have a story about a married couple and those losers will find a way to cuck both of the characters.

Rebirth is the next part after Remake.
A shipper is someone who wants two different characters, who aren’t romantically connected, to be romantically connected. Shippers usually fall into groups of characters they want shipping - eg Cloud and Aerith, or Cloud and Tifa, or even Cloud and Barret. They’re often fanatical about it to the point where they’ve been harassing other people, each other, developers and actors.
It’s not limited to FFVII either, and happens in a lot of fandoms, but to varying extremes.

i ship non canon characters all the time but i understand that they’re non canon. i think there are sadly people out there who ship non canon characters and ships and expect everyone else to do the same too though :(
